I'm quoting New Zealand prices but I'll convert to US dollars

2.8GHz Pentium 4 CPU
512MB RAM
80GB HDD
128MB Video Card
DVD-Burner

Should cost about around $750 approx.

Be careful of computer dealers who put cheap parts in flash looking boxes, be careful about warranties, it's worth buying the extended warranty in most cases

Make sure it has the right ports or drives for any printers or disks you already have

Make sure you get a Windows XP sticker on the side with the number on it (Little yellow and green sticker)

Don'y buy from backyard PC companies

Don't get less than 512 memory

Medium/good spec would be something like:

Athlon64 3000
512 pc3200 ram
160gb hard drive
16x dvd writer
Radeon 9800pro graphics card
17 inch TFT monitor.

Probably looking at around £300 if self built, £350 or more if bought in a store.
