Why not tie skills development and labor shortage skills together with welfare to create workfare? Raise the poverty level to $27k but limit the time you can spend on welfare plus create a sliding scale of food stamp support that matches the cash spent on WIC and other staples rather than a flat fee? Tie the whole program to proven citizenship and remove the people from the program who don't land a job within 3 months of skills training in the skill(s) needed. We eliminate unemployment and bring a sense of dignity back to the whole program

it's their constitutional right to not have to work and get welfare. (so they seem to think)

Could be a decent idea, except, like the others said, the mentally disabled shouldn't be held accountable to that. Also, there are far too many lazy people out there who would rather not work and get money than to have to actually work for money by getting a job. There was a lady in my apartment building who is on welfare/section 8 and paid only $65/month for rent. She was raising hell about how it was way too much, yet I'm struggling to pay $980/month for the same s h i t t y apartment. People these days amaze me.

I support that idea, however what of the people who are disabled? I think able bodied people too lazy to work ought to starve a bit, and I have no sympathy for those on welfare or public assistance that are on line, as if they can afford a computer and isp or the time then they ought to be working

cute concept but like everything else it's the details that kill ya. what happens if the workfare person is mentally a box of rocks? what happens to the idiots kids are they to be punished for moms stupidity because she too slow for anyone to hire? People often forget these programs are about the kids not the parents any action you take against the parents will effect the kids.

HEY! Why don't we get rid of those lowlife welfare users? I mean they are all the same, right? Why don't we just round 'em all up and shoot 'em from the feet up?

Then nobody'll ever be poor again. After all, people always choose to be poor, right?

How about the paraplegic??
OK how about the guy with a hang nail??

Your "one shoe fits all" approach simply isn't going to work

That would require effort on the part of lazy people. They'd never vote for that.
