I personally hate them.
Any cigarrette smokers here who would like to defend themselves?
Why do you smoke?

Any better excuses than; "it relaxes me" or "I'm planning on quitting soon"

I think everybody has tried it once, but when I tried it, it was disgusting and I found no point to it, so...why do it a second time?

Smoking is an addiction, and unfortunately because of society's anti-smoking attitude it prevents real help being given to victims of their addiction - backing gimicks of nicotine patches or the idea that quitting smoking has to be hard when it does not.

It isn't smokers who have to defend themselves, it is anti-smokers who must defend their unnecessary hatred towards smokers, and who back the anti-smoking attitude that is detrimental not just to smokers but also non-smokers through knock-on effects from the social problem of smoking.

I smoke. I started as a teenager, peer pressure thing but gave up when I was 20. I didn't smoke then for 21 years although I always craved a cigarette and sometimes dreamed I was smoking.
Then, out of the blue it seemed, I had a breakdown. One day I asked someone for a puff on their cigarette (not what I'd normally do), whilst in hospital and that was it. It really did help to relax me and it was like having my long lost friend back so it was comforting.
So I've been smoking now for 3 years. I think I will stop again but at the moment my ciggy is my mate.

No, I don't hate them. I feel sorry for them. I was addicted to tobacco myself for awhile, and I know it really is addicting. However, I quit cold turkey, and it was not too difficult.

One of the reasons I feel sorry for them is all the hype about how hard it is to quit, how many excuses they have available if they don't succeed in quitting, etc. They are second only to overweight people in having quacks exploit them with "miracle drugs" and suchlike to quit smoking. Actually, I think just going cold turkey, throwing away the remaining supplies (giving them to someone to smoke creates the possibility that you can backslide by bumming smokes off the person you gave them to), and just making a firm determination that you have already quit. Not "trying to quit," but HAVE quit. Then, for a week or two, you may have to stay away from others who smoke until the habit really is out of your system.

I remember sitting across the table from a friend of mine who smoked the same brand I used to, and he had his cigarettes and lighter on the table between us. I took one out, put it in my mouth, and was just about to light it when he said, "Hey, those are mine. I thought you quit." I had reached for it as a completely automatic response, and had literally forgotten that I had quit and those were not my cigarettes. Once those unconscious habits are gone, you are in the clear.

So no, I don't hate them; I want to help them.

It's not the smoker I hate, it's the second hand smoke. I have a very slight restricted lung due to scolosis (I know, it's misspelled),and breathing around it ... . I would rather spend my $4.00 on something better. Why burn you money like that? I can't even afford the things, oh well, people are gonna puff thier lungs away I guess.

No need to defend my right to smoke, if I please. What gives you the right to judge others? I could sit here and tell you that you are petty, and need to consider the fact that if it really bothers you so much, maybe you shouldn't think about it so much that it actually inspires you to HATE people for an addiction that is not easy to get over. And I haven't smoked for a very long time.
So, before you start bashing people for their life choices, look at yourself in the mirror and judge yourself for being such a tard.

I don't hate anyone. I hate the fact that people smoke. I used to smoke over 6 years ago. I quit when I got pregnant 3 pregnancies ago. I think that it's sad that a cigarette can have such control over a person's life. ( I know it's the nicotine in the cigarette.) I must admit, though, I sometimes really want one. Also, my mother smokes. I'm concerned for her health, but I don't nag her to quit because I know that you have to really want to quit to do so. It only upsets her.

i do not hate smokers but i do hate the smoking. i use to be a smoker 25 years ago and it is a horrible addiction. smoking is one of the hardest addictions to break because it has been socially acceptable for so long good thing that is changing. in a smokers defense it can take a long time and lot of will power even with the pills and patches to actually quit. but i hope someday smoking will be made illegal so that so many do not endanger themselves and others.

No need to hate people. It's the habit you dislike.

Just quietly move away from them. Don't get all upset when you stand next to a smoker. Don't give them a hard time or argue with them.

i have 2 reasons though i am sure they aren't "good ones" but i do it to relax/stress relief (i have a very stressful job) and so i don't snack and gain weight. but i am a very polite smoker, i always pick up my cigarettes off the ground and go as far away from people as i can. so i really do try to be considerate. it is a nasty habit i know and i do plan on quiting one of these days.

Because it's my choice
Not yours.
You don't like cigarettes, that's fine, then don't smoke.
But last time I checked,
this was a free country ( correct me if I'm wrong)
and part of that freedom is MY choice to do what I want with MY life.
Not your choice.
If you don't want to be around my second hand smoke, THEN MOVE!!!!!
Why should I have to justify my habbits to some one I haven't even met.

We're all going to die anyways.
