Is it to protect yourself or someone else?

I have a very big secret that I've kept (I literally have not told a single soul) to protect someone else. I know if I ever told him (especially after this long) it would hurt him unnecessarily. There have been many occasions where I wanted to tell just to hurt him but I just don't think I would be able to live with myself if I did.

A secret is only a secret if you tell no-one. If you tell one person anything it is not a secret. I always think of my life as an open book but I guess there may be things that I have not shared with others like maybe certain thoughts or actions that I did not believe anyone would be interested in hearing about. As far as protecting others well I guess maybe so. It is not really being secretive as much as it is respecting certain situations, people, feelings etc. Before one talks about things they should ask themselves what their intent is by talking about the subject. If there is no positive reason to talk about things and it can not bring good to anyone why talk about it. If the intention is to harm others or make yourself look better by putting others personal info out there ...then it becomes malicous gossip &/or slander. This can be very dangerous because many lives can be destroyed by it. I belive in the old attage treat others how you want to be treated. Always try to bring the best out in others.

I used to have many secrets - mostly they were ones I kept because they were deep, dark truths about myself that I was too embarrassed to share.

In the last year, my boyfriend and I have been so brutally honest with each other that I've spilled all my secrets to him no matter how embarrassing or shameful. Sometimes he thinks I'm a freak for the things I've done and the thoughts I sometimes have, but mostly he appreciates my honesty. It has helped us build a level of trust I've never experienced with anyone before.

You wanna know a secret.... I robbed a safe back in 1972 and netted over $6,000.00 and made it look like an inside job.

It was the biggest heist of my century to see if I could pull it off.
Then I put on some rubber gloves and put the money in a brown envelope and mailed it to them with a note saying, next time tighten up your security. I learned from Da Best!!
Signed...your best friend

It is to protect myself as well as those closest to me. Some thingsa are better left unsaid. Cos the damage they can do if discovered is just too much.
