I also have under active thyroid and take anti-depressants, so slightly more complicated! Also allergic to fish/sea food.

The best advice I can give is go consult a good Homeopathic Physician. Conventional Doctors are just good for inventing fancy names for disease and disorders they do not understand and do not have any idea how to cure with their stupid drastic side effects ridden medicines which make you even sicker then before. Trust me go to a Homeopath if you really want to get well.
Take Care and God Bless you !

Using Pred. long term isn't a great idea (vet advice essential). Metacam/Rimadyl can help, at least initially to control pain, but again, these have side effects which suggest long-term use isn't a good idea, unless your dog is elderly, in which case you have to weigh up the benefits to be gained from using this against the potential for anything 'long term' - if you know what I mean. I've used R & & A (Vitapet) oil to good effect, and although recently tests on humans suggest glucosamine isn't all it's cracked up to be, there are some glucosamine-based products, specifically made for dogs, that seem to work. Have you considered using alternative therapy for your dog. I'm not big on this, but with chronic conditions, am prepared to give it a crack. We have a vet in our practice who specialises in alternative meds./acupuncture. Might be worth investigating. Just know that often pain killers can make a dog feel better, so they immediately overdo, which can make things worse!! A little 'feeling it', within reason, is sometimes better. The other must is keeping weight down with an arthritic dog. And a little gentle regular exercise is far better than not taking them out because you feel sorry for them (pain). But make sure you keep her warm and dry her off well if she's been out in the wet. I know from personal experience that damp/cold makes this condition worse.

One supplement I take for joint and bone pain has 300 mg of calcium, 1500 mg of Glucosamine HCl and Ginger Root, Bromelain and Green Tea Extract. The supplement comes from a company in Idaho Falls Idaho, but does contain extracts from shell fish so if you are allergic to crab and lobster, I would suggest checking out some of the other Glucosamine products on the market. To date though, this is the only one that has helped both my husband and myself even though we have tried other Glucosamine products in years past. If you would like more info, I get it from www.Melaleuca.com for $9.99 for 90 tablets which is a one month supply. Do becareful detoxing off of any medications that you have been taking on a long term basis as you may develop complications or put yourself in a dangerous situation health-wise. Please consult your medical provider before adding or changing any thing that you are currently taking for pain as addiction can be a battle all its own. Best of luck to you - you are certainly not in the minority.

Has no one ever suggested getting rid of the problem rather than treating the symptoms???

Call your local chiropractor and see if they have any answers for you. Is so sad; they are the last resort for so many problems and yet have made their reputation by treating these unaided patients.... for years.

You need to find a good one, just as is necessary for you to find a good MD.

Have you considered acupuncture? I can vouch for its efficacy as it saved me from having surgery on my knee. My father also used to have it to alleviate arthritic pain in his back and he swore by it.

I don't know of any, but I do know that you can go tn GNC and inquire about that. I'm sure that they will be glad to assist you. I don't blame you for not wanting to take that strong medicine.
Get well soon & God bless you always!

I works with herbal supplements and most of my customers who have the same issues as you take either Traumeel or Zyflamend. They are all natural herbal supplements without any side effects.
