I am aggressive when necessary, which I consider rarely. I have told many times I am "soft spoken".

Most truly intelligent people are soft spoken because they question what they say, ignorance doesn't care and just runs it's mouth.

I don't think it's a character flaw. I've been told that I'm soft spoken (you'd never be able to tell given all the blunt answers I give on here, lol), but it's always been in a positive context. I'm a teacher, and I've been told by principals that my students have to really stop and listen to learn from me. They're more engaged as a result, and as long as I'm not a doormat, it's all good. Of course, they're not in my room all the time. :)

I've noticed about other people (not myself) that soft spoken people wait to speak and don't waste their breath. When they DO say something, it's something other people should listen to. And they do. Consider it a strength.

As long as you actually DO stick up for yourself when you need to, then no. Many people I would describe as "soft-spoken" are also easily intimidated and tend to shy away from conflict or risk. They also tend to be people that put up with a lot of bullsh!t from their friends/lovers. I get the impression that you are ASKING this question because someone said this to you in a "bad" way... otherwise, you wouldn't be asking if it was a problem. If someone says you are too "soft-spoken", they may be trying to tell you to stick up for yourself or have an opinion. But that's just a guess! Good luck!

I don't think it's a character flaw at all. I just think it's important to watch your back because people try to take advantage of others who are soft spoken. They try to talk over you and think you are easier to control. But since you are aggressive when you need to be, I say being soft spoken is a welcome trait for people to have. I wish more people were soft spoken, really.

Amymarie....join the club. Often I'm asked to speak up because those around me are too loud. It's not a character flaw as long as your own needs are requirements aren't compramised. I had to learn quick the "The Squeaky Wheel Gets The Oil" too often in so many situations. Speak loudly when needed. Otherweise your soft spoken nature will be much appreciated by the right people. (or special someone) Good luck.

Quite the contrary. The fact you're conscious about it is others are being subtle in trying to influence you or manifest their dislike. Whatever they tell you, it's a lie. They heard you fine. It's a power play. Body language, the eyes, and, thankfully, the obviousness of stupid, low, arrogant people, doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to figure out. Oh. Did I forget to mention? I'm soft spoken. Don't go to California. Ignorant loudmouths.

No, it's a very good quality. The only down side is that people may think because you are soft spoken that they can walk all over you/

"Speak softly and carry a big stick" Theodore Roosevelt

likely overlooked nowadays as 'soft-spoken-ness' has indeed become a bit of a cultural no-no.

the better question would be "why do we allow such an incessant squawking noise from such a wide majority of brain-dead idiots?"

bless your soft-spoken-ness

to me softspokenness is more indicitave of one's degree of introspection and understanding of the human psyche more than anything else
(well, unless you're an outright buffoon who is merely mute for having nothing to add ;) )

Actually, someone telling you that you are "soft spoken" is a compliment. It means you speak with a gentleness about you. Never harsh, easy to listen to.

Being soft spoken is a gift. Studies have shown that a melodious voice evokes a positive response.
