How come at many ice rinks, figure skaters are really rude and stuck up on themselfs? I mean it's like you either "in" or not in the figure skating groupie and why? Even if you've been skating for years they still have no respect for you. It's sorta like a one for one thing, your on your own, find someway to survie, otherwise your going to die. So basicly i'm just wondering why some of them dont give you a chance, they walk by and laugh at you b/c your not at a certian level? Why are people/ kids like this? (i'm at a high level, not a beggining level.)

I'm just wondering b/c it just sorta sucks when your on freestyle skating all by yourself, all you want to do is get off. Its just gotten to me so muc that i dont really want to go to the ice rink anymore. I guess it ruined my love for the sport.

Figure skating is a tough sport, but it's usually only availalbe to the welathy people in the world... Look at the kind of people who you're competing against. I would take it as a compliment if they aren't immediately welcoming you with open arms... I wouldn't want to be a part of a group that is that stuck up and exclusive. Kudos to you for not being a stuck up spolied brat... Every time you go out on the ice, you have to remember that you're skating for yourself... You didn't take up figure skating to impress a bunch of princesses... did you? Be proud that they realize that you have some character, and are a better person than them.

Yes I agree there are groups on figure skating. I am probably one of the big ones at my rink. But our rink isn't all snobby because were all country girls for one and nobody really has $ except for our $75 lessons for 30minutes lol. But I've been skating for 8 years and people that started skating at the same time and are at the same level tend to stay together. Try recommending a picnic or a club party to the board of your club. And it helps to make friends when your at the rink all the time

my rinks are the complete opposites of yours whenever theres a new person we always try to talk to them and make htem feel comfortable Im sorry that is how your rink is because some of my best friends i met skating except there is this one girl i go to school with who hates me I have no idea why but she does but o well. I do hockey and skating and luckily the people i play hockey with dont mind that i figure skate and they actually have gotten better from some of the things i have tought them, but most of all the other younger tems like 14 to like 5 or whatever jsut thinik figure skaters are a big joke , but there is actually a boy who skates who had some hockey coaches ask him to teach threre players how to skate better and they were like 16-18 and they respected him.

It is awful when the rudeness of others takes the fun out of a sport that you love and excell ijn. I think the sport has gotten so competitive that everyone is in survival mode, a dog eat dog mentality. You may want to read some sports psychology articles before you leave figure skating. You can learn to focus on your own performance/practice and tune out what is going on. Some people have never heard of sportsmanship!! Best of luck to you!

They do seem like that. Kind of unprofessional. I just think that they are in a very competitive sport and this is the way it comes across. I dont think I would miss it much if these skating competitions werent televised anymore.

It's kinda like that at our figure skating club. Obviously the best are in one group and talk about the bad ones. Were really competitive like that and we have to be the best. You know what they say "go hard or go home" most of the time the best tend to skate alone and talk in groups be uses they want to improve. So the reason were so mean is because we don't want anyone getting better then us.

Why figure skate when you can play hockey? Seriously, you would be so much cooler than any figure skater.
