Wireless is much faster if you have broadband and plug the modem into a wireless router. The speed of your wireless service depends on the speed of your ISP. So, if you have Broadband then your speed will be that of Broadband. If you have Dial up, then your speed will that of dial up.

54mbps wireless is faster than 54 kbps dial up. This is not the way to compare them though. If you channel your dial up connection to a wireless router, you won't get 54mbps, you will get 54 kbps.
Wireless means just that. Without wires. But you need a transmitting medium to make it work and that medium needs access to the internet, either through braodband (DSL, cable) or dial up.
Cell phone companies are rolling out wireless connections that are separate from these and can be accessed anywhere but they are not cheap.
Go with DSL. They give free wireless routers and their price is close to the one for dial up even though they are much much faster. You will save a lot.

Wireless is much faster...there are 1000 Kilobits in a Megabit:
kbps=Kilobits per second
mbps=Megabits per second

Started out with dial-up, now have cable.

What took 1/2 hours to download with dial-up, takes two minutes with cable.

Dial-up costs anywhere from $4 a month to $12 or so.
My cable costs $50 a month.

You have to decide if you have patience, or money to splurge.
