It's about wal-mart trying to take Xmas away from children,
Single parents can't afford Christmas present for their children if they do away with lay-a-way. Wal-Mart is supposed to support
the communities where they have stores but all they want to do is cut back wages. I heard Target is thinking about lay-a-way. This may not hurt you or I but it sure will hurt a lot of kids getting ready for the new school year & parents trying to make a good Christmas.

I grew up in a single parent household and as an only child I am spoiled. My mom gave me everything I wanted. She also gave me some values and made me work for some things too. I can remember putting her gifts in the lay-a-way and being proud that I had bought her something. The Christmas Club idea works, but a lot of times the things you want may be out of stock. Lay-a-way is a big help to a lot of people, not just single parents.

I think it is a shame that a CO. like wal-mart can not accommodate
their customers. As far as the other answer well lets just say this !
These people are not asking for any discounts nothing free just a little time. It cost Wal-Mart Nothing if wal-mart didn't want lay-a-way they should never have started it. But it was the Father ( and founder ) that started it he was for the people that didn't make
the big bucks. I hope you never need a little time. I think it is a great petition & I will sign it in a heart beat. And will do my shopping at target.

Most banks have a Christmas Club, that would work pretty much like lay-away for you except you wouldn't actually select the merchandise until you got your Christmas Club money, which is usually several weeks before Christmas - ask a local bank.

Using a Christmas Club will help you spread the payments out over most of the year instead of just a month or two of lay-away.

Companies incur substantial costs providing layaways - and costs drive up prices. No, if they drop layaway they probably won't decrease prices, but maybe won't increase them when they otherwise would have.

If you can afford to put a few bucks a week or month towards whatever it is you want to buy, you can certainly afford to save a few bucks a week during the rest of the year and pay for it when you walk in the store. Why should Walmart be responsible for you lack of discipline? Responsibility? Accountability?
