well since it is so cold in alaska eskimos decide to kiss the nose because there lips are chapped from the cold

Traditionally, they greet each other by rubbing noses. Probably to conserve energy and heat while outside. I have no doubts that they enjoy a kiss and cuddle once they are inside from the cold weather.

It's largely a myth. but to the extent that it happens outdoors it's because noses are sensitive when cold whereas lips aren't - try it for yourself some time!

My Nan told me it was because it is so cold where they live their lips could freeze together. I was a very small child when she told me that story, but I always believed it.!
