It seems to me that by Sun Tzu's standards, the Bush administration does everything bass ackwards.

bluffmike: You have got to be a troll. Sun Tzu is part of the curriculum at all U.S. military academies.

It doesn't seem like anyone there has read it. But if they did and it didn't fit their agenda, they would dismiss Sun Tzu as a terror propagandist. As for the Art of War being a pop-culture flavor of the week; what a truly ignorant statement by someone who obviously hasn't read it. Most of the Art of War is common sense (which it seems our current administration lacks), but it is one of the earliest "rules of engagement" philosophical text on record.

Do you mean his statement 'kill one to terrorize ten thousand' and the need to know your enemy and so forth?

I'd expect that any of them who have done reasonable officer training within the military would know of it, at least. (It was pretty well compulsory for Russian officers prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union, btw.) I'd say that Dr Rice would have read it (recalling how she earned her Ph.D the reason why is in my previous sentence), but then, she's not actually in charge...

Have to agree with you (as a non-American, I must point out), that some of the current administration's methods are not exactly helpful and are viewed by many outside the US as creating more enemies for you than you are actually defeating. But then, I must also admit that Pres. Clinton's methods were not always so great, either. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

I know that VP Cheney has made a few quotes from Sun Tzu, but quoting is one thing...

But to give you another perspective: I get a bit tired of various people around the world who criticize your nation for 'meddling' in the affairs of other countries, and then when something goes wrong in their neck of the woods they bleat that the USA is not giving them enough help! As if you are supposed to be all things to all people!? I mean, your country is rich but your resources are not unlimited. Why should you have to bail out everyone all the time? It's absurd, IMHO.

In my opinion you Americans are still a great bunch of people and you've got a great country, no matter who's in charge and who is reading what. Period.

Peace,

Lenky.

Art of War is a pop culture flavor-of -the -week. By my standards, you do things *** backwards by being a shill for the enemy.

No, because if they did they would realize it was common knowledge in 500 BC that engaging in a prolonged campaign will result in your defeat.
