It is a Duty of a person and a Right as well.

It is my duty to respect you on one hand and it is my right to get respect from you, on the other.

The same is true for you also.

Respect for me would be anyone treating me as I treat them, listening to my opinions, being polite, never being judgemental without completely knowing a person, I mean never jump to conclusions, many times it is not what it looks/sounds like.

Respect is accepting a person as he/she is, it means that if you are respecting your friends, it is also a form of self-respect, it's a way of acknowledging that you made a wise and thoughtful choice to befriend a man/woman who deserves your love, trust and esteem. If you treat him/her as if he's/she's beneath you, you're saying that you made a poor choice and that you settled for someone who doesn't match you.

Respect does increase openness/intimacy in any relation, the more open/intimate you are , the better you communicate and communication is the key for the success to any relation.

I consider somebody respecting me, if he accepts me for what I am, not what I have materially. One should respect me for my values and based on mutual relationship in respecting others opinion.

respect is being honest with others. It is found when you can listen to someone you do not agree with with out auguring. It is talking to someone with out bashing their beliefs and values.
