Wasps do sting animals and animals can suffer anyphylactic shock. This report, taken from a website, is obviously quite extreme, but it did happen to a show dog.
'Two wasps (rather their remains) were found in his stomach and the tissue samples showed that when he swallowed them, they went down fighting, as there were wasp stings in several places at the very back of his tongue, down his throat all the way down his esophagus. The report states that anaphylactic shock from these wasp stings appears to have brought on the chain reaction leading to heart failure. It was also reported that the anaphylactic shock can cause the dog's body temperature to spike very high, very quickly (his at time of death was 109 F), thus leading to the stroke. Please take caution with your pets when wasps and bees are in the area. These little pests can be deadly!'.

Yeah, wasps sting anything that invades thier territory or threatens them. Dogs, cats, even inanimate objects if they are riled enough. And almost any animal can be alergic, though some animals, like humans, are more prone then others. If you think about it, the reason more people are allergic to stings then other animals is probably because we take care of our wounded. Animals in the wild who go into shock would die and not pass on thier genes to the next generation.

My friend's dog keeps eating wasps. She gets stung every time, but keeps on stalking them, pouncing and snapping them up. She yelps as they go down, and then starts looking for more.

She's a rather weird dog. We assume it must be like spicy food or something. She keeps eating them even though it hurts. Fortunately, she does not seem to have any allergies to the stings (yet).

Yes and yes. I used to work in a vets office and we used to see the shock and allergic reactions in dogs from time to time. One's face swelled up unbelieveably!
