Im Building a GAMING computer..Should i go with a single core or duo core?

My mobo is a ASUS PtN32-SLI Deluxe Nforce4 Sli X16 Intel Edition

Okay, the guy that said most games are multi-threaded is wrong, most aren't actually. Now having said that, the other people would be right in saying the fastest single core, except that even the fastest single core out right now is SLOWER than the fastest dual core, so you go with the dual core, even though you are not making full use of the second core. The board is alright, if you haven't bought it yet don't and go for one with the nForce 590 chipset, much better especially for running SLI.

Most well designed games use threads which allow them to take profit of multiprocessors or duo core. Thus with the best program design, performance could reach close to 200% the one on a single processor system.

Of course perfection can only be a goal and usually well designed multi-threaded programs go between 150% to 175%.

Duo = higher performance gaming

Most games are single threaded, so go for the best single core CPU you can afford.

Dual-Core ONLY for gamin. Any SLI motherboard is usually considered "good".

for gaming.. it would be Single. unless the game uses muti threading. then Duo. but for most, they are still single threaded.
