The Pope made the comment: "May the Eternal One, our Father in heaven, bless every effort to eliminate from our world any misuse of religion as an excuse for hatred or violence", yet he still denounces homosexuality and he himself perpetuates hate towards an entire class of people.

Paolo, what he believes does, partially, drive political process, so it does effect me. Also, the bible considers many things sins, right above the passage in leviticus about homosexuality, it says children who talk back to their parents should be put to death, do we see alot of that happening, No. Also, the core teachings of Christ is that thou shalt not judge lest the be judged ... it's up to out God to decide if we are sinners, not for mankind or for a man who claims to speak in the name of God ...

Paolo the Bible doesn't condemn Homosexuality. I think you need to study your bible more thoroughly also you may want to check your bible the king James version was created for the catholic church and it has been edited by people with an agenda for the rest of the world. Those people will be judged harshly for adding to and taking away from the bible.
When you study the bible in Greek and Hebrew you will see that the word homosexual is not there since there is not word for homosexual in the Greek language of that era. The concept of homosexuality did not exist until 1869 and I do believe that the bible was written oh about 1800 years before that time. So how can the bible condemn something for which the concept of it was never recognized for almost 2000 years later.
Strange how your little mind works.

As for your question
Isn't the Pope hypocritical?
yes he is and most religious leaders are they have to be in order to control the thoughts of the masses enough to get them to support their institution with enough money to provide them with the niceties of life while they are themselves suffering.

He is. He's the leader of the Catholic church and he makes decisions based on his HUMAN instincts. What? Do you think he's got some heavenly telephone that he contacts God every night asking him what he should ban or not? Whatever. If their religion is so important, where are the remains of the 10 commandments that Moses tossed to the ground? Where's the actual cross Jesus was crucified on? You'd think important pieces of history like such that someone would actually keep for historical purposes. I believe that there's a higher power out there but I don't follow these stupid people making decisions that I'm suppose to be evil according to their rules. "Love one another" and yet they're so quick to pass judgement on anyone who doesn't agree with their point of view.

he doesnt perpetuate hate against an entire class of people, but he is the leader of the Catholic Church and it may surprise you that he actually believes in the Bible, so is it that strange that he condems homosexuality when the Bible condems it? Listen what the Pope thinks or doesnt think doesnt really effect you now does it? I mean the fact that he condems homosexuals and a lot of other "sinners" isnt going to change the way people act or behave, so hey, give the guy a break hes really only doing his job, he can hardly speak out in favour of something the Bible condems, he cant get sacked but think about it if he was the CEO of a massive corporation..he would get fired.

I think you have a misperception of the Catholic Church's stance.

I find the Catholic Church to be the one most accepting of homosexuality. They accept gays, but they don't want them to have sex. Well, Catholicism condemns most sex. The only sex that is okay in the eyes of the Catholic Church is within the confines of marriage and is for procreation/get closer to God. And that's it. This is the view of the official church, and of course, isn't followed by every Catholic out there.

I don't agree with it at all -- expressing sexuality in a healthy way is good. And what would we do without condoms? And I'm an atheist. But I find Catholics to be really refreshing compared to all of the fundamentalist protestant groups out there. The Rev. Phelps, anyone? He frightens me.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

With love in Christ.

Yes, dear, He is hypocritical. The entire Catholic Faith is. That's why my Mother turned away from the Catholic Church. She didn't want her children corrupted by their un-Christian-like views.
She always used to say: "If the Pope don't play the game, he can't make up the rules."

I totally got what she meant and still do.

Homosexuality goes against God and against nature. It's an abomination. How could you expect any religious leader to condone it?

Absolutely YES, but then most religious leaders are incredibly hypocritical, as are many who follow them.
