My 7 month old baby girl has had a fever for three days. I took her to her pedi last night and she checked her ears, nose, throat to find no visible infection. She has lost her appetite, (a little bit), she does not want the bottle, only breast. My hubby and I felt sick the same day she started as well.( were fine now) Her fever has been btwn 102.2 and 100. She was put on Amoxcicillin and Albuterol. ( really bad cough and congestion). The doc took some blood and will have the results back tonight. What could it be? Thanks

If she breaks out in a yucky rash tonight or tomorrow morning she may have had Roseola...common virus, not a bad thing. She'll be fine. My daughter had it several months ago. Good thing about that is, once you've had it once, you'll never get it again.

I really don't want to minimize this but I have to go along with the teething crowd. All four of ours had similar reactions to teething and all four survived the experience.

The cough and congestion doesn't fit into teething very well but it could be a coincidence. I'm like a cop in that I don't like coincidences but they do happen on occasion. I suggest you follow the doctor's advice and give her the prescriptions as directed. The blood work may show something and the doctor will deal with it.

Good luck and don't let it get you down too much. When a child is sick it is that much more important that a nursing mother be well. My wife breast fed all four until they were at least a year old. We were very careful with her health during that period, I recommend you do the same...

She's on an antibiotic and she's been to see the doctor. Sounds like teething to me but he has done all that can be done at this point with him taking labs.
She isn't going to be very hungry if her nose is stopped up and she can't breathe well. I assume she is still on formula and possible whole milk. Both of those cause a person to produce mucous which is what her difficulty is. Just keep trying to keep her comfortable and offer her a lot of juice and water. The important thing is to keep her hydrated. Maybe some pedialyte. Although her temp is elevated it is still withing a controllable range. Don't over dress her. Don't panic and try to get rest if you have some help. Baby needs mommy more than anything else.

sounds like she has the virus that everyone has been getting. with her being so young it is affecting her more. she will be alright. give her a lot of fluids. when my baby was four months, she went through this. the only thing, her temp went up to 104.0. with a lot of fluids and tylenol, she was fine. the doctor also gave her some congestion medication. the doctor did not give her antibiotics because there was no sign of infection. they did test her urine though to be sure that she did not have a urinary tract infection. all was clear. it was a virus. it took her about three days to get back on track, but the fever began breaking while we were at the doctor. take care of your little and she will be fine.

I really wouldn't worry about it TOO much, it is scary when you know there's something wrong, it's more a fear of the unknown. IT's more then likely just teething. My daughter went through it at 6 months. She didn't really have anyproblems with the other teeth coming through, but when she was around 12 months she started the fever thing and loss or appetite again and we took her in and it was her molars coming through. Some babies just have harder times then others. Trying a really wet cold washcloth and see if she starts biting on it. Good Luck and try not too worry until the Dr. calls with the results.

go get a second opinion. she could have rsv which can be fatal. i know through experience. she may also have bronchitis, which can very easily turn into pneumonia. that also can be fatal. either way it is still very uncomfortable for the baby. my 7 month old just went through the same thing. the doctor almost hospitalized her. she had bronchitis that was turning into pneumonia. she was put on albuterol and cough medicine. she didnt clear up very fast and the doctor had me give her another treatment that is called dec-chlorphn dm syp. it is phenylephrine, chlorpheniramine, and dextromethorphan. make sure her crp level is okay and they test for rsv. i had a friend whose baby died of rsv because they said she didnt have it and refused to test for it. and my friend even worked at the hospital.they sent her home and said that her duaghter was just congested but she didnt believe them. she was going to take her baby to a hospital the next day about an hour and a half away because she knew they would take care of it. but the baby died that night. at first it was determined to be sids but anytime a baby dies of sids they have to do an autopsy. they said that the baby had severe rsv and that her lungs and nasal passages as well as all airways was clogged with mucus. so the baby suffocated in her own mucus. all because the local er was too busy to pay attention or even care. please get your baby tested for this before something turns bad.

It could be teething, but it sounds like possible pnumonia. My son had this when he was 9 months old and only wanted breastmilk too. He was put on a nebulizer and given Albuterol through it, so if you ask me, it is probably that!! It could be a flu also, because my daughter had it when she was 6 months old, but she threw everything up!! No.....I am gonna stick with the pneumonia, it seems to fit this scenario better!! She will be fine if you follow all the instructions that your dr/ gives you!! Good luck!!

With a fever that long, and cough and congestion, sounds like she could have bronchitis. It's nothing too serious, make sure you give her the meds as prescribed and wait for the test results which will be more conclusive. I hope that your baby gets better soon. I know how frustrating it can be when you just want them to feel better. I have 3 kids myself and have been through it.

Sounds like typical viral infection.

My son had twice. Viral infection typically has fever for 3-4 days, after fever, viral symptom shows. The symptoms maybe rashes, flu, roseola, chicken pox.......depend on what she got. You and your hubby are alright because you may infect with it before, already got the immunity. She lost appetite because of fever.

Good that you took her to doctors to wipe out other probaility like ear infection. Don't worry about it. You will get used to it when she becomes mobile. She may take everything into her mouth and get whatever in it. She will be fine.

The doctor knows what's best usually, so just wait for the test results. That's a pretty low grade fever for a baby (unless it's a newborn) so there's no serious cause for alarm. If she stops drinking completely (no bottle, and no breast), she's vomiting/diarrhea, or she's lethargic, then take her to the doctor or the ER IMMEDIATELY. It only takes a matter of hours for infants/toddlers to dehydrate completely and everything shut down.

That fever is pretty low it could be teething or a bacteria infection. The amoxocillin takes about 48 hours to work by then the fever should be gone.

Good Luck
