Do you think our 2nd Amendment is being destroyed?

Its not being destroyed. Its being abused. We still have the right to own and bear arms, unlike countries that dont have it. Our right to have a militia and our right to own "any" arms is what is being infringed. And it would take some major Supreme Court decisions to get some of those rights unimpinged.

Jefferson explained in a letter to a colleague that the purpose of 2A was to keep a balance between the citizens and the government, *not* the citizens and an invading entity. He believed that the "free society" would occasionally need protection from an intrusive government. To ensure this as reality, the amendment was written in its present form.

He could not have envisioned the technology available to government now, though. This is what complicates the matter.

Yes. The right of the military to have guns flows from the right of the citizens to own guns. To allow the military to have a gun that the citizens cannot is an abridgment to the second amendment.

let me explain the situation to you as simply as i can ... all of the first 10 ammendments have been destroyed except 2 and 3 ...the only thing we are guaranteed at this point is that soldiers wont be bunking in our homes and we get to keep limited firearms ...the soldier thing could be eliminated with the stroke of a presidential pen and is really irrelevant ... but what it amounts to is that you as a bearer of a firearm have no rights in fact, and you are reduced to any disagreement with the government to gunpoint ... and you have already lost that one... that gives them the excuse to kill you ... its a false sense of security to think that just because we still have guns that we are safe when we sat quietly by and let every one of our other rights be stripped away.

No.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

No, but it isn't being followed. The framers envisaged gun ownership only in the confines of a 'well regulated militia'. This means if you want to own a gun, you need to be in a volunteer army or organization which has as it's aim, the protection of your locality.

Practically no-one relying on this amendment is signed up to protect anyone but themselves, and so they forfeit the right to bear arms.

No but it should be the way fools carry guns in this country shooting innocent people and kids in schools. This is what happens when laws are abused. The govt has to step in and act like a parent to control the ignorant in this country.

No. But if you own a gun, you should serve when called upon. Do not hide behind only part of it.
