Either because your parents did/do or you do not know why you shouldn't. If you do the right research, you will find that Halloween actually started after the flood (Bible). People started a rememberance of the people who perished during the flood. Since these included wicked ones and only righteous ones were living after the flood, then the wicked angels that returned to heaven when the flood began, are likely the ones that started in what is now Halloween. The other rituals associated with Halloween came mostly from old Celtic heritage. The Hoiliday is very pagan and if you profess to be Christian, or associated with any religon, then you should not be celebrating it. Look for yourself.

It's called a rite of reversal. In the bahamas, they have a celebration called John Canoe Day, where the poor people are served by the wealthy families in a big festival and banquet. this one day of the rulng class being subservient to the lower class goes back to the slave era, and it releases a lot of tension, and sociologically it helps to keep the lower class from rebelling. Halloween, or samhain (pronounced "sow-en") is a pagan tradition celebrating death, and remebering the dead. It keeps the ghosts from feeling neglested and getting angry, so it is a rite of reversal in that way. Under early christianity, it functioned as a rite of reversal to keep the pagans from questioning the authority of the church, as many christian holidays were cover-ups of the old pagan holidays (the wheel of the year). As for today, kids get that one day to take candy from strangers. The rest of the year, they know that they're not supposed to.

It's an old pagan holiday and the belief is that the veil between this world and the next is particularly thin on Halloween. The pagans call it Samhein.

It seems like an odd assignment for a computer class.

It is a pagan/wiccan celebration.
It is believed to be the day/night that the "line" between this world and the world of the dead is the thinnest. It is a time to think of loved ones gone and to remember the good times.

Back in the old days people would put out lights outside their homes to scare off the "ghosts" of their loved ones. No ones them to be stuck in this world after the realm has closed.

Many traditions from the pagan beliefs like yule logs and tress for x-mas has stuck around to help the pagans transition into christianity.

It is a very old holiday from Europe called "All hollows eve." It was believed on that day that the spirits of dead loved ones could come back a play tricks on the living unless they were left a treat (trick or treating. They used to carve beets or small gourds until the pilgrims brought the holiday to the US and found that pumpkins were easier to carve. The costumes represent the spirits and the candy is the treats.

The customs connected to Halloween can be traced to a Druid *ancient Celtic priesthood* ceremony in pre-Christian times. The Celts had festivals for two major gods- a sun god and a god of the dead. The festival was originally held on November 1 but was gradually incorporated into false christian rituals.

MUCH DARKER - cause we act stupid and ignorant. Search the occult . The celebration of the birthday of Satan and the month of October the Satanist do a lot of human and animal sacrifices for the Devil's birthday. why do you think this months there are so many suicides, missing children and cats.
Go to Yahoo and type in "Occult" and go to "signs and symbols". You will find many answers there. remember to look t the videos on the man page and openlinks to look further

My 2 cents:
Samhain-The first day of the "New Year" and marks the move from summer to winter. This harvest festival honors Saman, an ancient lord of the Dead. According to folklore, on this day the souls of all those who died the previous year gathered to commune with those still alive.

I think Halloween was orginally celebrated because it is the day that ghost and goblins get to raom the Earth freely, so people dressed up in costumes so they would blend in with the ghost and goblins. NOW it is allabout getting the candy. I can't wait to take my daughter out trick or treating.
