It is totally safe, just follow the instructions, ie not putting it near the baby etc...I've been told and totally agree that a cool mist humidifier is best -it's easier to keep clean as bacteria can not grow easily, make sure it is suitable for the size of the room, if it's made for a bigger room, it will get everything damp/condensation will accumulate -Not good for baby- I would avoid putting any kind of vics product at this young of an age as it too strong for their little lungs. My son was born in the cold month of February, so the heat was up pretty high...the cool mist helped his nose from getting stuffy and dry and he was still sleeping in my room at the time, so it helped me breath better too !

I have to tell you to ask your doctor..
I can tell you that our humidifier is on in the baby's bedroom the minute it starts getting cold out.
Running the heater, or living in a dry area, means you almost always have to have the humidifier on. Many respiratory problems start because of dry air. (the mucus dries before it can drip out of the nose)
I brought my baby home when she was 2 weeks old (in the middle of winter)....the only time we turned off the humidifier was when we needed to clean/refill it.

There are many advantages to using a humidifier, it should be a cold mist one. You often need to use one once you turn on the heat for the winter. You should keep the whole house the right humidity. When my daughter had a baby last winter it was one of the first things I bought for them. Check out this site on healthy humidity and healthy home air.

I would recommend using one.

Because with cooler weather coming, and heaters going to be used soon, humidifiers help to restore moisture to the air that the heat destroys.

And because of the drier air, sinus and respiratory infections are more easy to set in.

It will keep the sinuses moist and help keep congestion to a minimum. Get a cool mist humidifier so that if the baby managed to get their hand into the mist it won't cause a burn.

Yes, actually my ped. suggested getting one right away when I brought my baby home. Just make sure it is a cool water humidifer and not a vaporizer (steam my burn). Also, they don't recomend the vicks until after atleast 3 mnths. The saline drops are the best bet for clearing a stuffy nose (or even a steam bathroom).

Probably, but call your pediatrician. I've found that saline products (like Baby Ayr), when a few drops are put in each nostril, then suctioned out with the bulb syringe, do wonders in getting little ones' noses un-stuffed, without any meds.

it's safe i had to when mine was 7 wks old bc she had RSV. it's not best to use a warm humidifier bc it actually harbors bacteria. you need to get a cool air humidifier u can usually get menthelatum drops to go with them, but if you do don't use too much bc it can give them pnuemonia. try baby vicks methol drops and it will usually tell you how much to use

Yes it is safe as long as there's only water in the humidifier. You don't want the one with the vicks. Use water only. I got one from walmar that uses water only.
