Everyone talks about not stressing out a fish, how do you know if it is?

The fish I got yesterday swims around his tank in really jerky motions, his tail isn't droopy or anything but he's very twitchy....if he's stressed out what should I do?

If its fins are clamped, if it is skittish, if it won't eat or really anything other then swimming around and eating normally.

Just give him some time to get used to his new surrounding.

A lot of times you can tell because your fish won't eat. Also, another sign is if they tend to swim low to the ground or in fast twitchy motions. There are things in the store you can buy that should help calm them down.

Since you just got your fish yesterday, he might be a little nervous about the change. My fish did the same thing when I got them. After a few days it will probably stop. If not, then you could have him in a room with too much excitment for him to handle.

if the fish swims around the tank fast and darts around fast then it is stressed. but you can go to a pet store and buy something called stress coat and put it in the tank and it should help com it down.
