It would depend on a lot of factors (type of gun, environment, what direction the wind was blowing, etc...) Sound carries very efficiently over water; my grandmother lives on a beach and when the wind is right, you can even hear human voices from the islands three-quarters of a mile or so over the water.

Absolutely. Bullets can also travel that far depending on the gun and bullets. One came into my back yard from a shooting range about 2 miles away.

Alot depends, it is my understanding that depends on these following physical things:
What gun was shot?
How far you are away?
What is in between you and the gun? (ex, air, forest, etc)
Whether or not a silencer was used?
There is a theory that you can hear the bullet before you hear the sound wave of the gun itself?

Yes, we have a gun club in our town and we can hear them on the firing range whenever we're hiking the local trails which are about 4 miles away...

Absolutely. Of course, it depends on the conditions. For example, you wouldn't hear it in NYC, but you'd hear it in the countryside.
