This may be silly but I really want to know what ya'll think. I am 23w3d and I want to eat healthy for my baby but I work 40 hours a week and it's really hard to fit in all the fruits and veges I am supposed to be eating each day. How do you do it? For example, yesterday I ate: 2 bagels with cream cheese, a microwave meal of cheese and macaroni, A yogurt cup, and a double cheeseburger with fries from McDonalds. I know this is a silly question but I am just concerned that I am not eating healthy enough, I just really have a hard time eating in the mornings and then for the rest of the day I only feel hungry for junk food. What do ya'll eat on a daily basis to keep you and your baby healthy? Are my eating habits totally bad?

No worries! It sounds like you're doing a fine job. As long as you're taking your pre-natals religiously and eating enough (healthy food when possible), you have nothing to worry about. I pretty much lived on fast food when I was pregnant, and now I have a beautiful, VERY healthy, happy 5 week old baby.

a double cheeseburger with fries, after having two bagels in the morning? are you serious? look, i know when you're pregnant you get hungry but you really might want to look at the fat calories you're taking in, and what kind of fat it is. a cheeseburger and fries is ok every now and again, but you can't do that all the time and expect to be in decent shape for the birth - and btw, obesity at the time of birth is linked to birth complications as well as a higher potential for breastfeeding problems.

i ate my way through my pregnancy. seriously, i did, and i wish now that i'd shown a wee bit of sense.

whole grains. look for bread with at least 2 grams of fiber per serving.

try that new barilla plus pasta that has extra protein and fiber - it wasn't available when i was pregnant and i wish it had been. throw some melted cheese and ham (maybe) over it, add a side salad and there's lunch. you can do a lot with pasta. steamed veggies with a bit of parmesan cheese is a good addition, and there are a million ways to do it.

try some oatmeal in the mornings - there's a fair amount of sugar in the prepared versions, but you can also add dried fruit, like apples, raisins and cranberries, to help get some of those nutrients.

prep veggies and fruits over the weekends so you can grab stuff and go. celery and cream cheese is pretty yummy; plus you can use the neuchatel and drop the fat content.

cottage cheese and canned fruit can be a useful, not-too-unhealthy snack/breakfast. add some whole-grain toast and skim milk and...

well, darn it, now i'm hungry, too.

send me a message if you want more ideas. i could talk about food all day long.

It's not easy to eat healthy when you're not feeling great and you are in a hurry. I try to eat a bowl of cereal in the morning - that way I get a serving of milk as well as the grains - and a glass of OJ. I also stop at the store every couple of days and pick up a some fresh fruit - only enough to last me a few days - 1 apple, 1 peach, 2 bananas. something like that. So I have one for either my mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. I also have been eating those single servings of cottage cheese - for calcium. You could do yougurt too. and for lunch, I try to eat a salad to get enough veggies in. if it were up to me, I would eat Taco Bell every meal, but I just can't do that and I would probably gain way too much weight.

Think of what's best for the baby, they need all the nutrients they can get. and remember that if they don't get that from the food you eat, they will take it from your body - so you may become anemic or lose bone density because you're not eating enough iron or dairy. Oh, and make sure to take your prenatal vitamins.

Hope this helps!

Well, do not worry too much about your cravings for junk food.
I am 12 weels and it happens to me sometimes too, as long as you do not keep just eating that you and
your baby will be fine.
As for how do I try to eat healthy and with fruits and vegetables, this is what I do:
I try oatmeal for breakfast, or crackers with some spread cheese, or deviled ham and a yogurt. If I am really hungry
then I opt for bagels or pancakes. Then I snack on baby carrots, a plum, apple, pineapple cuts or a banana.
Then my lunch is rice with beans, brocolli and salmon or chicken, if I am in a hurry and have not lunch with me I buy a Caesar salad
with extra olives and mushrooms, or opt for a subway sandwich or BOston Market.
Then snacks are more fruits or some celery, sparragus or tomato juice.
For dinner I have pasta with chicken, tuna salad (just once a week maximum tough), rice with chick peas, or something alike, with salad.
and then I drink some milk with extra calcium, munch some cheddar cheese and eat some grapes if I am still hungry.
Good luck!

I think it's normal to want to eat and crave just anything and everything during pregnancy. I felt the very same way. I started, packaging carrots, celery, bell peppers, grapes, bananas, apples etc... Things did not need much fridgeration and snacked on those. When you're hungry you're hungry. Also reseach the local spots in your area. Is there a Fresh Choice near by or a deli and sandwich shop. I'ts ok to ocassionally eat a Big Mac ( i use to love those), but try to balance it out with Healthy snacks and meals too. As far as mornings, I can not eat breakfast. I started to eat/drink a Protein/Nutirion Bar (NuGo) or an Odwalla protein drink (Chocolate/Vanilla Almond. Something quick and light, that I can eat anywhere.

Im 21 weeks exactly, and I dont eat that great either. I, like you, love mcdonalds, but Im trying to cut back (havent had it for a week!) I love their fries...m-m-good! I usually eat a bowl of cereal in the morning, and not the serving size, a full bowl. Then I head off to work and when I get there I eat either a small cup of yogurt or a cereal bar. Sometimes I eat a bagel before lunch (which I have stocked in my desk drawer). For lunch lately Ive been eating lean cuisines, but they arent very good, this is usually when I dip out to mcdonalds. At mcdonalds ill either get the crispy strips meal (5 piece!) or 2 mcchicken sandwiches and a small fry. Then for dinner It varries. Sometimes its more cereal, others its pasta or chicken. I try to eat veggies, but I dont really like them. I drink about 2 bottles of water a day, and lots of juice, but i water my juice down. The only time I drink milk is with my cereal, and I dont eat red meat. Im sure my diet isnt the best, but I had my 20 week u/s and everything was perfect! Hope this helps!

Don't feel so bad, with my first baby I ate a ton of McDonalds, and I had no desire to eat anything green. My husband had to make vegetables and put them on my plate to get me to eat them. This time around I am eating better because I am also preparing meals for a toddler and I always make sure she gets plenty of fruits and vegetables. If you are short on time, buy the microwave dinners that have vegetables in them. There are really good meals available like the sout beach diet foods (they have some fat and are more filling in my opinion) or just microwave chinese food. If you are eating at places like McDonalds, try their salads and their healthier sandwiches (I love the grilled McDonalds chicken sandwiches without mayonaise). Almost all fast food places have something on their menu that is better for you then what you might automatically order. Also, you can drink V8 or V8 splash, they offer full servings of vegetables and V8 splash has a full serving of vegetables and a full serving of fruit in it. It won't have the fiber you need, but you can take a fiber supplement if you have problems with constipation.

hi,
Though I am not a female, thus not even pregnant, but I can give you an advance since I've been doing some research for one of my friends.

It doesn't matter much what you eat, beacuse the baybe takes from your blood all the components it needs and than your own nervows system tells you what kind of components is your body short of.

Of course your should excercise some coution, but there is no need to worry that much. Since before you were pregnant your body was in some kind equlibrium. After the baby develops it tooks what it needs withouth even asking from you, than your brain analysis your own needs and lets you know (this is how the sudden urges to consume some kind of foof come). Just listen to your body and feel your baby.

I am sure your are going to be a woanderful mom, since you are worried about it.

First u should be taking ur prenatal vitamins thats the best thing. and me as well as u work 40 hour days -- so for breakfast i normally bring milk and some cereal--and eat it here around 9 am--and then for lunch i try not to eat out alot i try keeping away from (mcdonalds--fast food) so i normally bring home made food--rice with some type of meat--and then i bring some fruit for a later snack i try bringing bananas or apples. and then like for my latest snack i eat a cup of yogurt or i go walking to the store and i get myself a juice--and plenty of water thru out the day! then when i get home i make dinner and have a bit of what i made----I mean its hard to fit all the fruits and veggies but try bringing food from ur house better than going out....Good luck!!
But also eat what u crave....

Don't stress yourself out too much about what you are eating, unless told by your doctor to watch certain foods. Pregnancy is a hard time with the food cravings and all!

I would say be sure to eat at least 2 pieces of fruit and 4 servings of vegetables a day, to make sure you are getting enough nutrients from them. If you have the occasional fast food then it is fine, as long as you are making sure to add more nutritious choices throughout the day.
