I'm asking about political thinkers here, so no "Rush" answers please :)
Personally, my favorite is Russell Kirk. Although I do realize that his dream of true anti-ideology social conservatism will probably never be realized, I just love the optimism and humor that permeates his works.
Two runners up are James Burnham and Albert J. Nock, neither of whom were true conservatives, but both brilliant men with engaging ideas.

I tend more toward fiscal conservatism - Hayek, Friedman.

Never been much up on the philosophical side of social conservatism, but maybe I'll take a gander.

My social conserative reading has been more contemporary commentators - Bennett, Sowell, etc - than philosophers per se.

Well I'm not really a conservative. But Hobbes is my favorite conservative writer. In many ways not a dreamer and certainly a staunch conservative.
