I need help in algebra, here are the problems, can some one tell me the answers or tell me how to do them???

Simplify.
1) –15 – 6 – [–7 – (–10)]
2) The difference between 81 and –6, decreased by –29.
3) 8 – (y + 8)
4) The opposite of the difference between x and 4
5) –(10 – k) – (k – 12)

Evaluate the expression if a = –4, b = 5, and c = –1.
6) | b – c | – a

7) The difference in altitude between the highest and lowest points in Louisiana is 164.592 m. If Driskill Mountain, the highest point, is 163.068 m above sea level, what is the altitude of New Orleans, the lowest point?

Thanks! : )

The final answers are not given, it is up to you to find out.

1) Peform the calculations inside the brackets first:
-7 - (-10) = 3
do the equation outside the brackets:
-15 - 6 = -21
combine the two numbers:
- 21 minus 3 = ?
Please solve for the final answer.

2) [81- (-6)] - 29= ?
Remember, do the equations inside the brackets first.

3) Multiply the value outside the brackets by the equation inside the brackets.
8 times negative y plus 8 times 8 = ?

4) This requires logic, you can do this.

5) Find the common values and simplify (letters to letters, numbers to numbers).

6) This you can do.

7) This you can do too.

I take full responsibility for any errors in my calculations. As you are willing to understand the reason for the calculations, you will improve. A test is simply that, to know how well you understood the topic. It will get easier with more practice.

Hi,

1.) Do what is in the brackets first. -7-(-10) becomes -7+10, which is 3. Now you have -15-6-3 which = -24

2.) First you need to find the difference between 81 and -6, (81--6) which becomes 81+6=87 Now subtract -29, which is 87-(-29)= 116

4.) The difference between xand 4 is X-4 so the opposite is X+4.

5.)Distribute the negative to the inside of the parenthesis and you get -10+K-K+12. Now combine like terms and the K's cancel so you have -10+12=2.

6.) Substitute the values they give you. first do the absolute value, which is 5-(-1)=6. Remember that absolute value is always positieve so its still 6 now subtract -4. Now you have
6-(-4)=10

7.) You have two mountains, one is the highest and the other the lowest. They have different elevations right. Now remember that when they say "the difference" they always mean subtraction. They are saying that if you subtract the the lower number from the higher one you get 164.592. Now they say that the higher number is 163.068. So what number do you subtract to from that to get 164.592? Are you sure you typed those two numbers in order because the first one(the difference) is bigger than the higher one?

Anyway you need to set up and algebra equation like this

163.068-X=164.592

Then solve by subtracting 163.068 from 164.592 and then multiply by negative one and you have your answer. But chech the problem to make sure you didnt get those two numbers backwardsl

1. 6
2. 116
3. -y
4. x+4
5. -(y-12)*(y-10)
6. 2
7. -1.524 or 1.524 below sea level.

OK, I did those quick and think they are right, anyone else?
