I still love Mel. Despite all the shallow, soul-less people who have turned their backs on such a talented, loveable human being like Mel, I will support him no matter what!!!

Haven't you ever done something stupid??? Mel is Martin Riggs!! He's entertained millions!! He made a stupid mistake and I am supposed to dump him like the countless sheep out there that do whatever his friend is doing? Is that right? I love Mel!!!

I don't think so.

When you become a celeb, you HAVE to know, or at least realise, that suddenly your opinions, remarks and/or actions, esp. when they're negative ones, "count" for something.

There are many fans out there who worship the ground their fav. celeb walks on, and Mel Gibson saying what he did (no matter whether he was drunk or not) may be taken for a fact by some of his less stable fans, and they may adopt his opinion.

Now I'm born in the Netherlands not too long after WW2, and thus learned a lot about how the hatred against (of???) Jews started, and how many people adopted that hatred, just cuz one person told them so, or convinced them it was true what he said....and see where it led to.

You may think Gibson's racist remark will soon be forgotten, and I think a lot of people WILL forget.....but there are also people like "out of control"-fans, and racists-groups, who will keep his remark alive.
And now YOU of course may argue that, even if what I said is true, the majority of people will know better than to adopt Gibsons opinions.
Think again.....read up on WW2, please.

(oh, and I agree that the fact Gibson was drunk at the time he made that remark about jews may have clouded his thinking. But that doesn't take away the fact he came up with that remark, which IMHO suggests he thought about stuff like that already during the times he is sober, know what I mean?
I sincerely apologize to Mr. Gibson if I'm way wrong here.......you seemed to ask for an opinion, and I gave you mine, for what it's worth)

Nope, it's not. It's not even a scandal. After "Passion of Christ" people were talking about his anti-semitism. But there were no facts other than the movie itself. Now there are some facts.
His interview with Dianne Sawer was a pitiful attempt to say that his is a drunk and he didn't know what he was saying. There are a lot of drunks in this world, but not too many of them start to say anti-semetic remarks when they are drunk.

It is not overblown to make a scandal of anti-semitism.

Tricky one that, as claiming someone as anti Semitic is a very strong accusation, especially as the only people who know the truth were there-we weren't.But he is always redeemed whenever you watch a lethal weapon film just for his mullet.....

Can`t see what all the fuss is about. He got drunk and said a few wrong words. So What!
The police see and hear this every weekend in the cities.
As for him supposed to be anti-semitic - he was drunk for gods sake.
But I suppose there will be some `butter-wouldn`t-melt-in-my-mouth` types out there who will say he was out of order.
I say to you - welcome to the 21st century moron!

Everyone all freaked out because he said some racist things, why didn't anyone care that he was drinking and driving? No one ever cares about that until some is dead.
