Otitis media is an infection in the ears and can be either bacterial or viral. It can be caused by many things, water in the ears, eustachian tube blockage (Prevalent in young children because they are not fully developed), Second hand smoke, etc. The buildup of fluid behind the tympanic membrane causes the pain and this must be relieved. Antibiotics are the answer.... see your doctor, your child may have to have myringotomy tubes to relieve the pressure.

My youngest brother had the same problem when he was younger. They put tubes in both his ears and took his tonsils and adenoids out. He has been better for it for almost 30 years. So, it possible your son has problems with infections for the same reason. Ask your doctor or pediatrician about it.

how old is your son? If he's a baby, make sure he's always sort of sitting up when you feed him his bottle. Never feed a baby laying flat. The milk goes straight in their ears.
If he keeps having infections, he may have to have tubes stuck in his ears temporarily. Its a very common surgery and lots of babies have it. ps. you can NEVER catch a cold from being cold or not having on shoes.

I am not sure how old your son is, but my youngest had to have tubes in his. Then, with my oldest, they say that the sinuses are connected to the tonsils and recommended that he has them removed.
