No Rap!!! and No Sad R&B....pick something ...black, happy, and uplifting....ask the people in your class...have them vote...

Something classic. If you pick Rap, pick something positive like Lauryn Hill or Common.

Maybe pick something from an era long ago like Sarah Vaughn or Billie Holiday or at least something like Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield. Bob Marley is a good choice. Buffalo Soldiers AND Redemption Song are good choices of his.

OR try something out of the box like hardcore punk/reggae legends Bad Brains (may be hard to find depending on where you live) or ska-punkers Fishbone or rock heavyweights Living Colour which are all bands made up of black people playing in genres not usually associated with black people now.

Really, I suspect each person likes different things.
