I'm assuming it's a telemarketing thing because when I picked up the phone, they told me that I'm elgible to lower all my credit cards' interest rate to 6.9% if my debt is at least $2,500. And it says to press 1 to speak with someone, or press 2 to be erased. I pressed 1 to and spoke with someone, he said he could lower ALL my credit cards interest rate to 6.9%, then he asked to "verify" my information... that's where I became susipicious.... What do you guys think? Are there such things?

I called one of my credit card companies and they said they don't have such affliation... and that it might be an outside markerter telecompany or some sort... should I believe this "promotion" or it's impossible?!

Ok... so they just called be back and asked, "So what did your credit card company say about us?" I told them exactly what they told me, that they don't have such affiliation to lower my interest rate to 6.9%. He said, "well, then how do we know how many credit cards you have, and how much debt you owe?" I said, "you didn't, until I told you guys on the phone earlier." HE HUNG UP. HAHA

Dear Sweetsally, please don't take those kind of phone calls!!! You don't have to be rude, but just Thank them for calling and hang up the phone. Most of all don't ever volunteer any of your personal information to anyone, especially over the phone. It's no ones business but your own. There are to many scams out there today. Now if you want to lower your interest rate, call the number on the back of your card, and talk to those folks. If you have had a pretty good paying history, and depending on how long you have had the card, sometimes they will give you a lower interest rate. Another thing you might consider, if you belong to a Credit Union or a Bank, you might think about talking to those folks, and see if they would issue you another card, and consolidate all the other cards you have. And if they do, shred those other cards immediately, so you won't be tempted to use them ever again.

And Sweetsally, if you do find a Bank or a Credit Union who will consolidate all your credit cards into one, then that is the best thing in my opinion that you can do. Just some advice here........., from one woman to another, you only need to carry one credit card the rest of your entire life. I hope you will always be savvy where your money is concerned. You do not need to apply for every credit card that is sent to you through the mail, that's the way they hook you.

Hugs to you Sally

Always be careful of telephone callers offering great deals and asking you for personal details. I always ask them for their home address and telephone number on the grounds that they have mine. If they say they aren't allowed to give them I hang up.

If you do want to lower your rates it's possible to take out a loan from a bank at better rates than credit cards charge but if you do that make sure you destroy the cards.
