well, you make a snapshot of what you are today, and gradually extrapolate it to the next stage.and try to visualize what you could be and narrate the vision positively.

The Interviewer will not only want to know how ambitious you are,but also would assess your judgement and how realistic you are.

The answer would reveal whether you are a day dreamer or a person with specific career goals.

You would also be expected to explain how would you reach the destination you want to reach.

Aim high and work towards it. Good luck

Just project. It may be an arrogant jab, it may be an honest business question. Outside of a business environment my attitude is; Get a load of this brain surgeon; no documentation with seals, ribbons, curlicued lettering as a guarantee you'll see tomorrow, goofball! Beyond this, try to be diplomatic. We're not sharing the planet with a high order of life.

Just think about the things that you are good at and picture yourself in 3 years. Do it seem satisfying? If not keep going until you find what you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life or for the time being.

1. Be a psychic.
2. Project how far you'll go in the company in the next 3 years.

I'd rather go with number 1, actually.

: Reassure your interviewer that you’re looking to make a long-term commitment…that this position entails exactly what you’re looking to do and what you do extremely well. As for your future, you believe that if you perform each job at hand with excellence, future opportunities will take care of themselves.
You can say that “I am definitely interested in making a long-term commitment to my next position. In terms of my future career path, I’m confident that if I do my work with excellence, opportunities will inevitable open up for me. It’s always been that way in my career, and I’m confident I’ll have similar opportunities here.”

its a very clear cut question where the asker really wants to know how well u have planned out your career & where u see yourself three years from now ie, which position etc etc.
this is a common question during interviews to check out the confidence level of an individual.

They want to hear that you are stable and reliable and that you have some ambition. Don't tell them that you want to be the CEO of a corporation or a rock star. Tell them where you see yourself fitting in within their organization and how you would like to contribute to its success over the next three years.

Answer it by being honest of where you see yourself in life if you had the opportunity do and be what you wanted in life. For example, In three years I see myself owning my own marketing firm and having at least one of the big three motor companies as one of my major accounts or in three years I see myself being one of Detroit's first owners of a Sonics Restaurant. Being honest and realistic too; I can see it if I am given the opportunity and I will try my best to make it happen.

They want to know what your career goals are. This is not a personal question, so don't answer personally. They want to know that you are going to be ambitious in their company, because that means you'll be a hard worker.
