Penalty points last for three years from the date you are convicted.

Some insurance companies may, however, ask you about convictions within the last five years,

From the day of commit the offence and the points stay on your licence for 4 years. However, your insurance will want to know convictions for the past six years. I got caught going through a red light at 8.00am on an empty road on a Sunday morning six years ago. Am just waiting for it to be taken off now.

Start immediately, on there for 5 years, ineffective after 4 in the UK. And I'm afraid Mike is wrong, the 6 penalty points thing started in 1997 and it's only for the first 2 years after passing, after 2 years you are allowed 12 points like everyone else.

I have had two seperate speeding points (3 points each) and I know they stay on your license for 4 years and on your record for 5 years. So after 4 years they can be taken off of your license but you still have to register those points with insurance companies till the 5 year is up.

It all depends really,if u were convicted of DRINK DRIVING the points will stay on your licence for 11 years and ul face a driving BAN between 12-18 months..If it was for other lesser offences and there is less than 12 points they will stay on your licence for 4 years from your conviction/court hearing, though insurance companies keep it on record for 5 years....

If in the UK they are valid for THREE YEARS . BUT ! The dvla will not remove them until Four years have passed, this is for insurance purposes. AND it is from the DATE OF OFFENCE , only if was a fixed penalty . if you went to court and got your point`s then it from the date of conviction . once they are off your licence After the four years have expired , you no longer have to declare them to your insurance as they are spent convictions . However some insurance companies ( like most ) Try to sponge as much cash off you as they can and like you to declare them until 5 years have passed . However YOU DO NOT LEGALLY HAVE TO TELL THEM AS THEY ARE SPENT .

Penalty points are valid for a period of three years but cannot be removed from your licence until four years have elapsed, after which you can apply to the DVLA for a replacement licence.

I believe the points run from the date you get your ticket

If you passed your test after 1995 & get 6 points your license is revoked & you have to retake your test

You're asking a state specific question, so you need to supply the state.
In Florida it's 3 years, however insurance may go back 6 or more years depending on what you are licensed for and the insurance carrier.
