I'm making a directory for work and created the document in Works. The printer said they can't open a Works document so I need to convert it to a word program or pdf file. When I saved it as a word file, the pictures and text got messed up

There are a ton of programs out there that will convert a document into a pdf file. Most of them set up a virtual printer that actually saves the document as a pdf file instead of printing it.

check out this list of programs that create pdf files from other documents at download.com:

You could try MediaConvert http://media-convert.com/

I don't see .WKS in their list of input formats, though. You will probably need to save as RTF first -- but be sure your formatting is all correct in the saved RTF file.
