I recently bought a PSP console. I have been using a SonyEricsson mobile/cell phone for some time which has a 2GB MemoryStickPRODuo (High Speed) - MagicGate memory card on which I store lots of videos, songs, documents etc.
I thought it would be a simple case of taking out the standard memory card from the PSP and inserting the one from my phone to view or hear stuff on the PSP. Obviously not. It seems I cannot access any data stored on the memory card from my phone, on my PSP.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Am I wasting my time

you have to reformat the card to work with the PSP. Then you might be able to go back to the phone if its formated first for the psp

its got to be in the right folder name on the memory card for the PSP to recognize that it is there.
i'm not sure where music files are stored but MP4 (video) files go in the following directory:

(assuming you are using a PC to move the files)
First, navigate to your PSP's storage drive (eg. F). Create a directory called "MP_ROOT" if it does not exist - go into this directory and create a sub-directory called "100MNV01" (that's 3 zeroes) if it does not exist. You should now have a directory structure similar to:

F:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01

Now copy your MP4/THM files to the above directory.

All the data on the phone is sorted into folders like PHOTOS and DOCUMENTS, the PSP's formmating is different like MP_ROOT/1004MVN for vids/ and /PSP/PHOTO for photos so your phone does not know where to look for them
