You have an idea, not a patent, until you register it.

Contact a Patent Attorney, but get ready to spend thousands of dollars for patent searches and filing fees and attorney's fees.

Once registered, you will receive a Patent Pending status good for one or two years until the patent is approved.

You have to register it for you to have a patent. After that, you can contact companies to sell use of your patent, but you'll have to be able to show them what the benefits of your patent will give them.
