I am changing my daughter from an infant car seat to a larger one due to her age and weight, my question is - is there a proper place to install it in the car? right now she is seated in the middle of the back seat. are the sides safer than the middle position?

No, you are doing great. The middle is always best, even though it is a little harder to get them in and out. But, it is worth it!

The middle is typically the safest position, however due to the make of some cars, there is a "hump" in the center seat which could cause the carseat to be usstable. Read your cars manual to find out whats safest according to the makers standards.

Good Luck!

The middle is the safest.

Make sure you take it to the firestation to get it inspected once it's installed because half of all car seats are installed incorrectly.

I went yesterday to get ours inspected (we bought the Graco Safeseat Step2 and love it) and we found out that our car doesn't have Latch.......don't know what we attached the latch things to but it wasn't right.

The middle is the safest unless it has the pull down arm rest then the sides are safer.

Sounds like you've got it in the right spot! The sides are less safe because if you wrecked and it was a side impact then it could put her in danger if she is sitting on the sides instead of in the middle.

I was having the same problem myself. I think it depends on the carseat and the car. But I ended up placing her carseat behind passenger seat and put on the child safety lock on the door
