The problem is not religion, it's human stupidity. When human stupidity clusters together, that's called fundamentalist religion. But it's not the cause. It's just a symptom.

Absolutely Not - My religion stands in every way for world peace and love for every person. Why would I want to give up the glory of the Lord and heaven for a little world peace.
Yes, I am a christian and dam proud of it ! ! ! !
If you think that the christian religion is the cause of the bad things in the world just imagine what it would be like with out hope and Love. Maybe, you should leave our great country and really find out what the rest of this world is like. I guess you also believe in the Muslim religion that teaches men to kill children and women, to torture other men to death, and maim their bodies. All so the can go to their heaven so their god will give them 27 virgins. Are you kidding me !

I don't understand where this concept of religious people killing comes from. 84% of the world’s population is “religious” which encompasses all religion (http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html). 16% are not. Don’t you think if religious people were murderous, then they would have gotten rid of the atheists a long time ago? Or we would have killed off each other by now? People kill people not because of their religion, but how they interpret it. Not all Muslims are killing. Plus, Muslims are killing Muslims, so what good is that? Ethnic cleansing had less to do with religion, as it has to do with prejudice and hatred. Idi Amin killed hundreds of thousands, and it wasn’t in the name of religion. How many people have Cuba, North Korea and China, eliminated? They are communists and therefore have no religion. Where are you getting your information from? Atheists?
Do you assume that people who are not religous do not kill? Without some type of moral background, wouldn't it be okay to do whatever made you feel good even if that meant hurting someone else? That is some weird philosophy...

I don't think the problem is religion. I think it is people hurting other people in the name of religion that has created so much hatred. I guess there are a lot of things I would do for world peace, but I don't think giving up my religion would help the problem.

Religions have separated mankind since it began in caves. We categorize, castegize and chastise in the name of the god of our chosen belief. We make certain that others of our religious pursuasion can easily recognize us so we dress a certain way or eat a certain way, or pray a certain way. We have religious wars (imagine, killing for god), and ethnic cleansing--which is also based upon religion more than ethnicity. I think that in order to have world peace, we need to leave our religions--at least the part that makes a Christian different from a Jew, and so on. To think religious extremists believe they're special and will go to heaven to have sex with 72 brown eyed virgins (at least for a while they are, right?) is ludicrous. How sad mankind is to think that god is on their side. We kill children of god all the time in god's name. But what do I know?

My heart could never lose the faith it holds. But, I certainly would leave a religion if it approved of seeking out others and destroying them. I would want to protect my family and others of this type of fascist thinking. In a minute.
Religion certainly does provoke unrest in an effort to achieve world peace.

Religion is organized. It is mob mentality. I go for Eatern philosophy, reaing of it on my own, speaking of it with others, at any time of day or night.
Mob mentality creates wars.
We are human. Even the most peaceful of the ape species will war against neighboring tribes in times of famine.
We cannot erase the in-group and out-group bias we will have as competing homo sapiens. Religion caves into this pattern again and again. It cannot save us.
But we can strive for reduced conflict if we are spiritual, each of us in our own moments, days, and years.

If religion means: Fear God, establish social justice, respect human rights, love thy neighbour,do not harm, have patient, be decent in your action and rational in your life. Then I cant leave my religion. How can this world better place without religion?
