I and my friend need a website. My friend is plan on pay this one lady 100 a month to have her design website. This lady is really slow and did a such awful job with the website. It took her about 6 months to design one simple logo for us. It take her 2 to 3 weeks to answer emails most of the time.

So I got fed up and told my friend I will do it myself. However I'm wondering how much will it cost to have a place host it. Also I'm wondering how much is the average price to have a website designer/developer to work on website?

The cost of hosting varies, according to the level of hosting you require. For example if you require CGI Script capabilities the cost will be higher than if you only require somewhere to serve your HTML pages.

It might be worth mentioning that free hosting is available, although the quality varies, and some hosts require you to have adverts on your pages.

I would try looking at http://www.webhostdir.com/ to find something that will fit your needs.

Website hosting will cost you between 4 and 10 bucks a month if you buy direct from the webhost and not a reseller. You can have simple websites designed for 25 bucks a page if you know the right web designer.

That depends on how intense your website is! A site will cost you nothing if you know what you are doing. Check first with your internet service provider to see if you already have webspace. Usually most ISPs provide you with 20 megs at least! This is more than enough for a basic site. The next thing to do is find yourself some cheap drag and drop web authoring software. I use a program called webeasy. Its then just a matter of uploading your site to your webspace. Lastly, you can purchase a domain name if you desire. This will make it easier for people to find your actual site. A domain name is not needed tho....

I don't know about cost, but if this is for a business, you definitely want to have it done professionally. This is even more important if your site is going to be handling customer data. Security is a lot of work. Find a designer who has been around, and you can be sure knows how to do a proper job. Anyone can learn a little html, buy a copy of dreamweaver, and say they are a web designer...

Just hire a real professional to do it. Trust me, you can't do it on your own. An e-commerce website requires a really professional knowledge to build and profit from. It will cost about $1000 at least, just to get the site up, and it will cost probably 2 or 3 thousand to start getting traffic and really selling. Starting a business costs money.
