I am getting a whole load of pop-ups advertising anti-spyware products and am getting seriously peed off with it! McAfee want to charge me £39.95 for a phone call with assistance. Surely someone out there must know a cheaper or easier way to get rid. BT anti-spy keeps coming up with an adware called Nuvens which it can't delete. Anyone please??!

Download "ad-aware SE personal" from lavasoft and install it - its free. You need to use it on a regular basis - once a week or every day depending on how much you browse the web. It also asks you to update the definitions regularly - say yes. You need to check the boxes of the files you find so they are quarantined, then go to the next step, which will quarantine them.

I have given the site I download it from below. If you don't like to use that a google search for the name will give you plenty of choice of where to download it.

Hi. I can recommend Ad-Aware SE and Windows Defender. You can get the first one free from www.download.com, you will find others on this site as well, all for free. Defender comes from microsoft.com, there is Malicious Software Removal Tool on there as well. When you come to scan, reboot the PC first, when it is just starting, before Windows boots, press F8 constantly, that will put you into safe mode where the nasties cannot reach. A lot of them hide inside other bits of software, safe mode gives you a secure base to ret rid of the gremlins safely.

use software hijackthis. it is the best and the fastest. Beware of how good it is, it will even sometimes eliminate printer drivers and you will need to reinstall printer, etc. Once you get the scan list look very carefully through it or post online for review in order to determine which ones to delete.

I delete them all-it is great fast, and minimal repercussions.
At hijackthis.com they will also recommend other less intense softwares to scan and eliminate spyware, but they might not be free like hijackthis

don't use hijack this! unless you know what you're doing. You can do a quicky fix in a few simple steps

1) download: Ad-aware, spybot, ccleaner and an antivirus (AVG or AVAST)- all free

2) turn off system restore (right click My Computer, select properties and then system restore)

3) Restart computer in safe mode (press F8 when the black screen with white writing comes on on startup)

4) run in this order - ccleaner - adaware - spybot - antivirus

et voila a clean machine, don't forget to turn system restore back on when you're done!

Go to www.download.com then download Ad-aware Se Personal edition. It is free and it works great. It's what I've used for years. I just recently (3 months ago) got Kaspersky Anti virus and it came with anti-spyware and firewall. It cost $60.00 (U.S.), but so far It's the best software I've had.

Been there, done that! Norton is just the same! They say that their stuff "only protects you against SOME viruses!" Yeh, right, well that isn't what it says on the tin, is it?
If you don't already run AVG Free, then get it and run it (in SAFE mode).
Sounds like you may have something like "SPYFALCON".
Go to majorgeeks.com, they will tell you EXACTLY what you need to do, nice and easy, and well explained.
Hope that helps.

Well friend I have a free program called Spyware Terminator that seems pretty efficient, and if this works for you I strongly recommend another free program called SpywareBlaster to stop the little buggers getting back into your machine.
