Yes but you have to understand a few things about component that are in the computer.

Power supply that converts the energy from the household socket to hardwares doesn't last forever. A expensive powersupply can last for 7 years while other can last shorter than that. A way to conserves power supply life is simple as turning your lamp off.

Motherboard are rarely a common hardware that "burnt out" but it happen.

Harddrive is a maybe but depending how much time data come in and out.

I would have the computer plug into a surge protector for protection.

You can use Windows XP hibernation for quicker turn on and off.

I'm told that it's harder on the computer to boot it than to simply leave it on. Unless I'm out of town for a week, my Mac is always on. We have about 16 Dells at work and they are never turned off either. I think power use is negligible, so go ahead!

Shorten its life? C'mon, it will be obsolete long before its "life" is over!

I always do; I've been told that if you're on and off the computer frequently, it's more energy-efficient to leave it on, as it takes more power to reboot than it does for it to sit in "sleep" mode. Every office I've worked in has done this as well; they just leave the computers in "sleep" mode at night.

And if you have a surge protector, you don't have to worry (so much) about power outages frying anything.

Depending on quality level of parts, constant ceaseless use of PC can slowly ware down computer components, but really the first thing to go will be your PSU(power supply) usually and that lasts almost always at least 100,000 hours at full use. So run away, I do!

Leaving it on constantly will make things in the tower wear out faster an example of this is the internal fan used to cool mother board.

Yea, you can - tho it might shorten its life just a little. It also gives hackers a better chance of accessing it if you have a permanent connection and no firewall. Mine is rarely off.

Sure you can leave it on all the time. It is not going to have any impact on life of your computer.

personally......... i wouldnt. Leaving it on idle makes it more prone to getting viruses plus your computer runs slower and eventually you need to restart it.
