if I can make it through on a yellow, it's usually safer than to try to stop before the crosswalk. It depends on speed and distance from the intersection.

Judgement call...

As for the kiss and the smack, it must be something your family did and you leanred as a child because I've never seen that done before.

YOU DO NOT SPEED UP IF YOU WERE PULLED OVER YOU WOULD FOR SURE GET A TICKET.

being a son of a cop-i can tell you that they won't pull you over if you simply are to close to the yellow and cruise through it-however if you SPEED UP you're not only going to get a ticket but you are for sure going to get a lecture of about 30 mins. they'll do this just to keep you there to prove a point.

you'll be even later to where you wanted to go.

so don't speed up, but don't be afraid to cross the yellow if you can't slow down. yellow DOESN'T MEAN STOP it's a caution to slow dooooooooooown.

"I" speed up! But technically, yellow also means stop. And speed limit through intersections, at least in VA, is 25 mph, so there's little reason anyone would ever actually need to run a yellow light.

That all depends if I have a chance to clear the intersection safely, then I would speed up. But that the greatest thing to do. I got pulled over on night for breaking a light.
So it alot safer to stop if possible to do it safely. I think the rule is to proceed with caution....
I think it just lucky you did not get hit so your appeasing the traffic Gods...lol.

never heard of the kiss and smack but I used to speed up on yellow until my kids started talking about it... Now since I want to be a decent role model I will either stop if it turns yellow soon enough or continue through (without speeding up) if it turns yellow too late...

It happened to me last month. I did the safest thing and used my defensive driving skills and rolled through the intersection. I got a ticket! It doesn't pay to do the right thing. I suggest if there is no cop in sight gun it! It there is a cop in sight slam on the brakes and with any luck he'll rearend you and it will be his fault.

The law states that you have to be completely under the light before it changes to red so with that in mind make your own judgement.

Because you know you are risking your life to save 30 seconds.

if it is photo enforced i slam on the brakes. if there is on coming traffic ready to turn in front of me, i honk and hit the gas. under normal conditions i hit the gas. i hate missing signals.
