I applied 2 months ago for a dream job that would forward my career and make sense of every poxy experience I've ever had to go through in my life (good wage too) I swiftly made it to the 3rd interview (out of 300 applicants) and then...nothing...
3 weeks passed, so I figured that I'd missed out, so I applied for another job, that I know I will enjoy but the position is a step backwards, the hours are a bit eeky and it's quite a bit less money. The interview went really well and I'd jut got home, when the phone rang and it was the orignal employer to say that I'd made it to the final 6 and could I come for the last interview in 10 days.
I was so shocked I said yes, and I was kind of like 'yippee'... but then - oh yes, I'm offered the other job....

Now....what would you do?

The job offer was made in the knowledge of my 'immediately available' state...I feel really bad about this...I can't afford to let this job go really because there's no guarantee that I will land my dream one... What would you say?

Will I regret not giving myself the chance?

I would go for my dream job. You can either tell the other person the truth; or you can just tell them that you wouldn't be able to start for 2 to 3 weeks. Maybe you would know about your dream job then. I would just be honest, you never know they might still want you if your other one doesn't pan out. Crossing my fingers for your dream job!

I think you should continue your application with the other job as you clearly really want it, but check you ask at the next interview what the rest of the interview process will involve - i.e. timescales. Also ask them if they have any current reservations about you, so you can not only tackle them then and there, but also to give you an idea of how likely you are to get the other position.
You can tell the other company that you just need a couple of days to consider the offer. Most companies will be fine with this, especially if they think you really are right for the role.
All the best.

I would follow through with the interview for my dream job. As a back up plan I would tell the other interviewer that I need to give 2-3 weeks notice before quitting my current job.

This should give you time to see if the dream job works out or not, while still leaving Plan B as an option should it fall through...

Good luck! I hope you get dream job!

you have to follow your heart dont you go for it otherwise you will wonder and regret always make some exscuse for the day of the interview as soon as you go to work let them know its a previous commitment that you cant get out of then if it doesnt pan out you still have a job but if it does then you have the job dont you and after all you would have only been with the other employer for a short while so its not like you will be damaging the company is it

Say yes to job number 2, negotiate a start date after the final interview for job number 1. If you are successful apologise to job number 2 company and say that you have been offered a job which is more suited to your situation and career plan, and hope that they can find a replacement quite quickly. After all hopefully you will not need to have any contact with them ever again.

Job interviews are as much about you interviewing the company as them interviewing you.
You could tell the second company that you need time to think about the offer while you go to the first companies interview.
You have to think about what you would enjoy the most.
It isn't about money in the long run, because whatever you do you can progress to increased pay, but it is about in which role you would feel the most fulfilled.
I can't tell you what to do, I can only advise on how to look at the bigger picture in order to make the right decision.
Good luck

I have had the same dilema and it's easy realy
The job you have been offered tell them that you have a hospital appointment (Small white lie) then go for the interview.
If you are offered the position then it's a win situation and if not at least you have a job. You must then put your heart and soul into it
If you don't go for the interview then you might regret it for a very long time.
I hope it helps
Good Luck

stick with the first one- read what you've written you really want the first one ;)

You sound like you're really bright so even if you don't get the first one~ you should walk anyother application.

....

besides, if yer gonna be a bit sneaky you can let on in the interview (depending how confident you are) that you've been offered another job with company 2 but would really love to work with company 1 "it's just that they are paying £7k more...."

Do both, go to the new job, but tell them you have to do this other "commitment" on the day of your interview and if you get the job, you just leave the first one.
