What have they go to lose by admitting their forefathers committed genocide? No one holds today's Germans responsible for the Holocaust. Yet when France passes a law to make it a crime to deny the Armenian genocide, the Turks get upset. What gives?

The Turks of today can't really apologize for something their forefathers did, but yes, they should admit the truth about history.
I am German and here it is punishable by law to deny the Holocaust and all the kids have to learn about it at school. For me this is the appropiate way how to deal with national crimes in history and I feel strange when I see how people in other countries try to brush them under the carpet.

No, and ......no. This whole idea of people of this generation having to apologise to a group because of something the last generation did is pointless. Should the english apologise to the french?, should the french apologise to the english (and the rest of the world for that matter), should the egyptians say sorry to their neighbouring countries for sins committed by the pharos of old? No.

Some people are not happy unless they are campaigning about or against something, be it the environment, war, feminism, politics, whatever. That is all it is about. It has nothing to do with an apology. Ask the armenians, do they really give a **** about an apology from people who not only didnt commit the crime but also dont really know what they are saying sorry for?

How can there be a law against denying the Jewish Holocaust, but not one for the Armenians? Who decides which deaths were more atrocious?

Moreover, who has the right to tell me what I can and can not say? If I want to deny all holocausts, regardless of proof or anything, don't I have that right to be a moron? Thank god I don't live in France, for I enjoy my freedom of speech way too much, regardless of the USG attempts at curtailing same.

I think France is trying to keep Turkey out of the EU. France is against any Muslim nation coming into the EU. I guess that makes them Islamophobes. Anyway, they pretty much know Turkey felt justified for that invasion. They never admit being wrong just to get into the EU.

No. Just like white americans today don't apologize to blacks for slavery and southern oppression up until the 1970's. Just another reason to divide. Build a memorial and vow NEVER AGAIN and move on.

It's stupid to apologize for anything in politics. Did you notice that right after we apologized for the spy plane incident in China we got hit on 9/11? Never show weakness, because not only will your enemies posssibly attack, but your "friends" may turn on you also.

Possibly. If they personally killed someone, yes. If it was because of a war, no. It is the nature of war for people to be killed.

Whether or not they apologize, they should at least admit the obvious truth that it happened, and stop arresting and imprisoning journalists and novelists and others who acknowledge the truth!

No. If we open that can of worms then every person on this planet will be apologizing to every other person.
