like by relating them to people in a company and what their functions are?

Nucleus - This is probably the General Manager
ER involved in the transport of materials
smoother - transports :? maybe the person who takes the order
rougher - stores :? the person who takes the money
Golgi Body - secretion :distributes the food
Ribosomes - assembly :puts the sandwiches together
cytoplasm - holds everything together :this would be the manager
Mitochondria - power plant (converts into energy) :this one's probably the cook
Vacuole - cleans things up and puts stuff away :this one's the janitor

Let me guess...homework assignment? Think of the parts that make up Burger King. You have the owner of the fast food store. You have a general manager, assistant managers, supervisors, employees, maintenance workers. Find out each definition of the above terms (ex. cytolasm, vacuole, etc...) and compare them to the list you made of the 'parts' of Burger King.
So, for example, a vacuole is a small cavity in the cytoplasm of a cell, bound by a single membrane and containing water, food, or metabolic waste. So, maybe at Burger King, that would be a storage unit where they store the food before it is cooked? I mean, this is a guess because I haven't been in a science class for years, but you get the idea. Find key words in the definitions...

ribosomes are free moving, so that would be customers searching maybe for someplace to eat. cytoplasm is what keeps everything in it's place, so i would say the employees. vacuole is the what eats the bad things and explodes to destroy the virus or whatever it is, then let's make that the comments of the customers and the boss fixing the problem before the company kind of explodes and fails b/c of poor customer service. the rest i cannot remember b/c it has been a while since i have had a bio class. i hope this helps or even gets your mind to start thinking about the roles. good luck, hopefully someone else's comments will piece it all together.

Ribosomes would be the person that puts the lettuce, tomato, onion, condiments on the burger (not the chef, forgot the name, assembler I guess)

Cytoplasm would be in charge of filling the drinks, shakes, and/or paper towel dispensers, salt, pepper, condiment station, etc.

Smooth and rough ER's are tough, the only characteristics are tubule and flat, I'd say the rough ER could be exectives of Burger King (Higher up's, big wigs ya know?) and smooth er could be the truck driver that delivers BK it's product.

mitochondria would definetly be a supervisor

Golgi is simple, shipping and recieving.

Vacuole would be a porter or maybe the clerk that takes the trash out, etc, what do they call that in the restaurant business? I forget, but I found all this on about.com and wikipedia.com.

well, you have to put all those things in order of importance and they can be the cooks, the dishwashers, the servers, the janitorial help, the managers, and assistant managers, the owner of the store would be the nucleus I think. You just need to think of 7 or 8 possitions in burger king. good luck.
