I need to get a new washing machine. Any tips on what features to look for when buying one? I live alone so I dont need a big one. Want one that is economical with energy and water, has a quick wash and a good spin. Can you recommend any good makes/models please?

Yeah, don't buy one from Hotpoint. They're shocking. I bought a washer-dryer from them, and in the last 18 months, i've had to call out an engineer about a dozen times. Now they're starting to charge me for it, and the blasted thing is still broken.

Um... hope that helps.

I'm currently using a Miele, it was in the house when we moved in. It is fantastic, it has Economy and Quick wash features, it can take a large load if you need it too.

Very simple to use, just does the job.

They are a bit pricey, but you really get what you pay for.

The tumble drier is fantastic too.

If you want to splurge, I hear amazing things about the Maytag Duet. It's a washer and dryer. Comes in diffrent colors. It uses less water but washes more clothes. What I love is that pole type thing in the middle ( the aggitator) is lower which means stuff won't get wrapped around it! But if you want basic, Whirlpool is the best. My mother bought her washer when I was 2, I'm 26 now and it's still running!!!!

Get a Kenmore front load as it is easier to get the clothes out, especially if you're short armed.
Also the washer uses less water and spins clothes dyer.
Easy to get parts and service if anything goes wrong.
I've owned my Kenmore for over twenty years and my sister has the front load which she highly recommends.

But if you don't mind the top load and want to save the bucks then I recommend this Whirlpool at Sears

For large loads like comforters or sleeping bags you could use a commercial laundromat.
Just remember it is better to use two loads of laundry than one over stuffed load as far as cleaning effectiveness.

Get a Kenmore, I have had mine 10 years and have had no problems with it. It's not fancy and beautiful, or colorful, just a standard white with a 5 wash cycles. It has regular dials and no electronic touch pads. It works great, cleans great and is dependable.

My Maytags have lasted since 1985. However, if I had to buy one now, I'd go for the large capacity model. I don't care if it's top loading or front. They have great customer service too.

Dont geta Service machine, nightmare when they go wrong, I waited 10 weeks and they still did not have the part needed. then it went wrong even more and they would not send anyone out untill the first problem was fixed, Co-op eventually gave me a new machine when the first one was only 10 mths old

Look for half load option and delay timer if you have economy seven. Bosch are very quiet. Built in models are expensive and the programmes take much longer.
