So it will be secure and wont fall off and smash?

Drill a hole into the plaster and hammer sturdy wall metal wall anchors in. Then put in the screw and hang the mirror. Wall anchors are generally rated by weight. Get some that are WAY over the rated weight. For instance, if your mirror weighs 30 pounds, be sure the wall anchor can support at least 100 lbs, to be safe.

Or, if you are lucky---find the wooden stud inside the wall and screw into that. It will be most secure there.

Most plasterboard is mounted on a frame made of 3" x 2" wood.
This is the 'stud' all the technical people talk about. You can usually find where they are by gently tapping the plasterboard. Depending on the age of the wall/plasterboard they will be either 16" apart or 400mm apart.

Don't try to fix anything direct to plasterboard, find the studs and, if they are wood screw your mirror fixings into them, through the plasterboard.

Alternatively find a man who knows what he's doing, they love showing off.

Good luck

I assume you have hangers on the back of your mirror. If you do, and they line up with the studs, I would drill a hole in 2 studs that will probably be 16" apart and put in a 2" (approx.) screw in each. If you have to put a hole in the plasterboard then you need a toggle bolt and will need to drill a hole just big enough to get the toggle through so it will be on the other side of the plaster and then will tighten up to the plaster. Hope this helps.

The best fixings for plasterboard are cavity wall anchors. You can get gravity toggles and expanding types. I prefer the expanding, but make sure you get the right type for the thickness of your wall. The wall boards are usually 12mm thick, so that's what to get. They are very strong, and won't let you down.

There are some that are like a big screw: they aren't all that reliable, but they are quick. I wouldn't use them, if I were you.

The above answer is good Ido not know the distance between the 3"x2" spars but if you tap the plasterboard you will hear a hollow sound when you do not hear that hollow sound then you have found the spar tap in a small nail you will if know it is going into wood and I think the space to the next one is 16"

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get anchors for wall board. Get the right hook for the weight of the mirror. Ask a sales person to help you.

I faced the same problem just this past week. Go to Lowe's hardware department and get a "hangman". They come in 6" and 18" sizes. They are ideal for putting up large heavy objects.

Is it a plain mirror, or in a frame ? If it's in a frame, does it hang on a wire or does it have keyhole slots in the back? I can't recommend anything without knowing the above ! Also what size is the mirror?

I wouldn't even try, my daughter did it and it fell down and badly but her leg resulting in 8 stitches. studded/plasterboarded walls are not strong enought.
