If you are overweight, losing a few pounds might be helpful. I had bad carpal tunnel in my left wrist. Had to wear a brace most of the time. This was many years ago. I gave up meat, lost 15 lbs and the carpal tunnel is 90% improved.

Take a break from the repetitive activity if you are performing one. Try Cold Laser Therapy from a chiropractor or get your wrist adjusted. Surgery is the last resort. There could be a carpal bone out of place in your wrist and pinching a nerve or the muscles could be tight and pinching something. Have you been diagnosed with carpal tunnel?

You could take MSM which helps with any kind of joint pain. I know some people it has worked for and I know some it hasn't worked for. As for carpal tunnel the only thing you can do is sleep in a wrist brace every night until your pain goes away. You have to do this when it comes back too. If it gets bad enough then surgery is your only option.

There are carpal tunnel braces that can be purchased at any drug store. Antiinflammatory medications (ie advil, aleve, motrin, etc) do help for both arthritis and carpal tunnel. There are not any herbal antiinflamatories that work well. As for arthritis, it is a chronic and progressive disorder that has no cure. However, glucosamine sulfate may slow it's progression by keeping existing cartilage healthy.

Carpal tunnel is brought about by displacement of the carpal bone or bones of the wrist.. if left untreated, it will bring crystalization into the joint and start the arthritic process.

You have the choice of surgery or chiropractic for the reduction of the mal-alignment of those bones.

Go see a good Chiropractor before considering surgery. It may well save you an unnecessary surgery. It did for me.
