It was a pass that bounded out of a collision between former Pittsburgh Steeler running back Frenchy Fuqua and Oakland Raider defensive back Jack "The Assassin" Tatum toward Fuqua's teammate Franco Harris, who made an amazing shoetop catch and ran into the endzone for the game-winning score as time expired, knocking the Raiders out of the Super Bowl. The play came to be known as the Immaculate Reception because a rule of the day stated that if the ball touched ONLY Fuqua or touched him FIRST, the play would've been ruled as offensive pass interference. But since the ball appeared to have touched both Fuqua and Tatum simultaneously, (according to refs and Steeler fans) the play was allowed to stand forever bringing controversy to pass eligibility rules until said rule pertaining to ball in flight contact was reworked to involve only ineligible receivers such as linemen or covered ends.

Famous ricocheted reception by Franco Harris and he ran it in for a TD after it deflected off of a Raiders' players shoulder.
