Fencing is great. Great workout, a lot of fun, and as you get into it more & more - an intellectual exercise as well. It's called "physical chess" for good reason. But- it can be pricy - you can get an beginner set-up fairly cheaply, but floor fees and lessons can get pricy - especially if you want to fence a few times a week.

Oh - and as long as there is no defect to the weapon - getting hit doesn't work. I only ever fenced foil (which is the best weapon to get started with) - and getting hit doesn't hurt any worse then a light poke in the chest by someone's finger. Good luck!

Its a fantastic sport and very addictive once you start. I absolutely loved it and the only thing which stopped me carrying on was the cost. Equipment and club fees can be a bit pricey to say the least. When I fenced regularly there was only one manufacturer of fencing equipment who supplied the UK (Leon Paul) so they monopolised the market and charged silly money.

Its exhillarating and very skillful, with three main swords to master - the foil, the epee and the sabre.

Give it a try! I hope you love it as much as I did. God, I miss it!

Depends which type of fencing you want to do. If it is for your garden, then you can do it yourself but if you want to do fencing for security purpose, then i think , you must hire professional service like SW Fencing.

It's an ancient art and is very good exercise.
Bruce Dickinson, the singer with Iron Maiden, was a very good fencer. In fact he had the chance to go to the Olympics but chose to go on tour with the band instead !!!.

It is realy fun and good exercise. It helps to be fit, and dont be put off just because you have people attacking you with swords!

No - it's great fun, but you need to be fit - but it gets you fit very quickly. It's a great excuse to point a pointy stick at someone. You'll love it!
