The factorization (hopefully) has the form

(2x+a)(x+b)

where a+2b = 3 and ab = -2. a and b have opposite signs because their product is negative. Trying factors of 2 for a and b does the job: pick a=-1 and b=2. Then you have

(2x-1)(x+2) = 0.

Many of the answers give you the solution. Some show you the working and others do more work than is asked for.

The question asks you to FACTORISE. It does not ask you to solve it. So there is no need to work out the values of x for which the equation is correct. In an exam that will just waste your time and you will not get extra marks

You need to show your working clearly.

2x^2 + 3x -2 = 0

2x^2 + 4x - x -2 = 0

2x(x + 2) -1(x + 2) = 0

(x + 2) (2x -1) = 0

You could leave your answer as the final line above i.e you have factorised the equation but if the question asks you to find the factors then end with:

Hence the factors are (x + 2) and (2x - 1)

Hope this bit of extra advice helps you. Good luck.

2x^2 + 4x - x - 2 = 0
2x(x+2) - 1(x+2) = 0

(2x-1) (x+2) = 0

Thus, the factor is
x = 1/2, and x = -2

2x^2 + 3x - 2 = 0
2x^2 +4 x -x - 2 = 0
2x( x +2) -1(x+2) =0
(2x-1)(x+2)=0
2x=1 or x+2=0
x=1/2 or x= -2.
