There are 3 three we are looking for in urine

1- Protein - If there is protein in the urine it may be a sign of pre-eclampsia, however if there is blood in the urine (normal, in later stages of pregnancy) it may show as protein so more tests would need to be done.

2. Ketones - a presents of ketones tells us you may be dehydrated or haven't eaten much that day, or may be at risk of gestational diabetes. We would suggest you have some orange juice and something to eat then re-check.

3. Glucose - if there were glucose in your urine it's a sign of possible gestational diabetes, further testing would need to be done.

There are many things doctors look for in urine samples. Yes protein and sugar, if there is an excess you may have diabetes or some type of condition. They do look for blood as well. On routine visits, if you are female, they will check for hcg (pregnancy hormone) because if a female is pregnant, they can not do certain tests.

They look for protien and sugar in your urine. If your levels are too high they will order more tests to determine what the problem is. I just had a baby a month ago and they did the urine sample with every visit. Good luck to you!

They are checking for sugar levels and protiens. This is used to signal for other tests if levels are too high. If there is too much protien in your urine it could be a sign of high blood pressure/toxemia. I had this with my first pregnancy, so with my second they kept an eye on me. I was fine. In regards to sugar, if there is a sign that they need to do more testing, they will have you drink an orange flavored, lemon flavored or cola flavored drink and then draw blood to further test for pregnancy onset diabetes. Dont be to worried about the urine tests. It is normal. Good luck!

Sugar in the urine can indicate diabetes. It's a routine screening. I think they also look for protein in the urine, signaling kidney problems.

yes, proteins. I have no clue what could be in the proteins, but that's what they are looking at. Also, they are looking at hormone levels and blood in urine.

They are looking for alien spawn - it's important to know whether you are pregnant, or just hosting a parasitic alien which will burst from your stomach and eat your obstetrician.
