My paycheck is direct deposited. I've enver had to wait for or ask for my paystub, though. Even though it's not a real check, my boss (or, if he's not here, his boss) has always gotten it to me promptly.
However, I did once work for a place where paying people on-time was an issue. Sometimes the hourly employees would have to hang around for an extra 45 minutes or an hour on payday waiting for the secretary to finish processing payroll.
The worst thing about it was that what they were usually waiting for her to do was fold the checks and put them in envelopes. Come on! You're making people wait for an hour so their check is in an envelope? I think they'd rather have it without one and go home on time!

Sometimes we have to ask, most of the time da boss just gives us our checks. Then Dragon and coworker go to bank and coffee shop in the middle of the day for a break from working.

I pay myself.
So that means: sometimes I overpay myself-sometimes I forget-
sometimes I give myself a raise, maybe twice a week.
I never ask myself for money.
I don't hate the boss-I love him.
Your situation--direct deposit.
or you need to establish the time of day one can expect to receive
check (pay) and keep that as the standard.
why not seek another position elsewhere?
people who don't like this or that aren't really good employees.

I haven't worked at a place that didn't have direct deposit in years. I cannot imagine has to ask for my paycheck. Do you feel like the orphans from Oliver!?

I have direct deposit so there is no paper.
When I used to get a paper check, it was always handed to me without asking and with a smile and a thanks for your hard work. Your boss sounds like a tool.

I have Direct Deposit so, I don't have to deal with that. The other people have their checks ready on the morning of, she gets them from payroll the day before.

pay days are every 15th and end of month.
Never have to ask....of course I'm the boss, but my guys never have to ask. Its always on time.....

Do you have a contract? If you are officially employed by him then you shouldn't have to ask. I used to have mine sent via direct debit straight into my bank account, and was done on time every friday. You need to get that sorted.

i used to have a job like that. Now I work at home and the hospital direct deposits it every other fri a.,m. tomorrow. yahoo.
